When did you first become 'camino conscious'?

What a wonderful post. Thanks. I had heard about this Trail you could take in Spain that ran all the way from the border with France to the Atlantic Ocean! The story lived somewhere in my brain. I knew there were places to stop as you went and that you had the freedom that afforded. When my life...

    Schengen Visa Issues!

Thanks for the links jirit-it's always best to read it for yourself. The only constant is change.

    General Thoughts on Nutrition ?

When flying for the airline you get really god at adding to and adapting foil bags of tuna fish. Add a packet of mustard or a packet of pickle relish from the fast food stand in the airport! My friends from Japan were experts at making a meal out of fish and sauces! o_O

    General Thoughts on Nutrition ?

Luka, We eat tons of veggies too and my favorite meals were "group soup" in places with kitchens. I always pick up a potato and a carrot/onion. Someone else picks up a few and you get the most amazing concoction. They don't need to be refrigerated either. Many people carry pasta. I take a few...

    General Thoughts on Nutrition ?

Robo, I just watched that video! Interesting. . . Coming out of AMS to the US I used to make my whole Crew go through Agriculture. Those containers of Tulips that are legal to bring back and are stamped OK to bring back still they find unknown bugs more times than not. They appreciate crews...

    General Thoughts on Nutrition ?

I actually am a flight attendant for NWA and then Delta after we merged. I've traveled into and out of many many countries. I'm security cleared to a high level through TSA and I'm a FEMA housing inspector, which took a long 2+ hour interview with Federal Marshals. They've checked everything but...

    General Thoughts on Nutrition ?

LOL It is SEALED in a package just like anything you would buy in a store. Our deer are behind 12 ft fences with only our organic hay, our own grain and no hormones or antibiotics. This is NH and we don't sell the sick ones. . . We burry them. Our Deer are happy Deer. :) peace out Friend

    General Thoughts on Nutrition ?

Just about the time you stop for the day to get a bed at the Albergue the town closes down for siesta. during that time it's hard to find anything to eat and the stores are closed. My motto became, "never pass an open grocery without picking up a piece of fruit, a vegetable to cook later or a...

Best time of the year to go?

That is the time of the year in which I hiked, but I was on the Camino Frances. I've read quite a bit about the Camino del Norte as being a lot wetter as it is picking up the weather from the coast. It is also less "inhabited" as some of the other trails. Good luck and have fun. I'd take layers...

    Schengen Visa Issues!

The Schengen countries - 90 days in 180 days. I read all of the posts above and I'd just say that flying for the airline like I did, some countries are more strident in checking passports than others - esp in airports. Germany questioned each of our crew members to the end degree and some of...

Do albergues refuse the pilgrims who don't carry their packs

Dear Fatima 1964 - I wanted to make another post as I did the Camino again in Sept. I have a slipped 4/5 vertebrae and I only got into the walk about 10 days and had to quit. Just carrying it around before I even started an incline cause me pain in my hip and leg. Don't be afraid to have...

Best time of the year to go?

I went for the first time in the Spring of '08 end of april through May. Loved it so much. Lots of blooming broom and lavender. White asparagus to eat. Smells were amazing. I love and watch birds and of course in the Spring they are also nesting and plentiful. This year I went in September...

What are the Do's and Don'ts of Albergue Etiquette?

Since this is an etiquette question, I feel compelled to respond. I worked for years on an aircraft and we had rules about any kind of electronic equipment for adults OR CHILDREN'S games - if they made audible noises . . . . .Use earphones or turn it off! I do believe it is acceptable to...

bedbugs history during my camino till LEON

I never saw one or suffered with one, but hiked in May. They say that the time of year is KEY so what is the WORST time of year, do you know? Maybe you and I just don't taste good!

    Bed bugs alert

I hiked the Camino in the Spring last time and saw no Bed Bugs. I hike the entire month of May. this time I intend to hike in September. What will that time of year produce in Bed Bugs? I've just retired from being a flight attendant for DAL and only saw them a couple of times, but this time...

Do albergues refuse the pilgrims who don't carry their packs

It's YOUR Camino. Do it your way - no apologies necessary. :) I must say that for me I want my stuff with me. Less is always more so do not overpack or you'll be constantly looking for the PO to send stuff home. You may change your mind about where you want to stop or where you want to end up...

What are the Do's and Don'ts of Albergue Etiquette?

I read through these and especially liked the ideas about courtesy OUTSIDE the albergue. ie/picking up litter and tissue after you have used it and carrying it on to a garbage receptacle.Don't toss it to the ground! As far as inside the Albergue and the noise that everyone complains about I...

What are the Do's and Don'ts of Albergue Etiquette?

Everyone always talks about the "Raccaderos" or snorers. I think the rudest thing is people who stay in an Albergues and expect quiet without taking and wearing ear plugs. When you are sleeping with 20-40 and don't plug your own ears you are just a tad bit self centered. Plug 'em up! good tip...
