Injured. Requesting suggestions for a plan B

Also, identify to the parador that you are an injured, credentialed pilgrim that needs respite. We have been injured twice and needed to stop for a week or two--once this past December--and in both cases, we were treated very well by one or more paradors with good rooms (an unasked for suite)...

Anyone planning a Christmas Camino this year?

Yes we are planning on a Christmas Camino. We’ve done 3 Christmas Caminos in the past 5 years We enjoy the quieter and less crowded walking as well as the Christmas celebrations and mass. It is our favorite time of the year to walk. This year we will be walking the Portuguese with our son and...

    Hard cash on the Camino

We carried 300 euro to start and refilled back to 300 from an ATM when we dropped below 100. We never had to worry about finding an ATM and spent 50-100 euro per day.

Is there still snow in the Pyrenees in the begining of May?

We have walked the Napolean twice in very early May. Both times were beautiful. Storms happen at any time (including July -- not snow but storms) but walking in early May is a good bet and worth taking, just have a backup plan. We have done a lot of walking and a lot of remote mountaineering...

    Spending money/subsistence

Hmm - I'm not sure that e25 per person per day is managing to get by. We were not budget limited but since we were eating nearly evening meal out and many times an excellent breakfast was provided, we preferred not to eat large every evening. Based on that we rarely ate the pilgrim meal or the...

    Spending money/subsistence

Looking more closely what we spent last year for two people (I love numbers and tend to keep track of everything), we spent an average of e79 per night on a room and e52 per day on food, with a few euros for a taxi leaving Leon (it was dark and raining hard and so we took a taxi to the other...

    Spending money/subsistence

I might be able to provide a high side bracket. Last year it was our 40 anniversary and so we celebrated. We walked 60 days, stayed exclusively in private rooms with baths including a number of expensive places (6 days in a Parador while recovering from an injury, la Perla in Pamplona, a couple...

Average walking speed & daily distance?

We've been walking a little faster than 2.2 miles per hour (~3.6 km per hr). This includes lots of picture taking, bird watching, cathedral visiting, etc. We pick up the pace on the few long days by cutting back on the other activities.
