Any place that puts up a sign that they have no bed bugs, that is an alert that they did have them. That was where I encounter my first bites. Funny that the next place I stayed at, a fellow pilgrim saw the same notice and was bitten as well.

Its food and it is no more expensive than buying stuff at home. I survive four days with just bread and water before someone notice that I didn't look so well. The doctor that was walking the Camino said I needed some protein after hearing I just ate bread and water. The pilgrims meal worked...
