First Day in SJPP -- Time to Explore

I would say if you are booked take them morning in SJPP and have a leisurely lunch and then miss the early morning stampede up the hill. you will also have less of a crush at the pilgrim office as well..

    Refused a bed

I only had this once when on my penultimate day in Finisterre a young family with a baby moved into the bunk next to me. I was really homesick and missing my wife children and grandchildren so to hear the baby quietly feeding in the bunk next to me was really re-assuring. The poor parents were...

Young woman looking for a walking friend or group

This is really good advice .... commentary made on walking buddies is very true at 6:46 https of this video .. Andrew gives great advice ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIgMAs4-J8s To be honest language and walking pace tends to sort out who you walk with... you will find plenty of companionship on...

    dresscode evenings in alberque

Got a lovely memory of arriving just the other side of Sarria in a large Albergue and most of our Camino family were having afternoon drinks in the sun. We must have looked like a bunch of sunburned, dusty, footsore, tramps with agaffa tape around the feet. When suddenly in came two "Camino...

    dresscode evenings in alberque

Dress Code tends to be ... no one cares .... Peregrino you leave all sense of looking good by the time you get to Roncesvalles especially if you go over the Napolean ... just try to not get stuck to someone else's Compeed in the shower.. and yes the Lycra is in abundance. Puts you off your...

Anyone Stayed in Auberge du Pelerin in SJPP? New Pilgrim Needs Info

Hi I stayed there at the beginning of my Camino in 2016 it was very full and whilst all you needed was there I found it not a great stay. My booking had got lost but thankfully I had the receipt that the money had been taken from my account so they gave me a bed. This is very subjective as I was...

    Splitting the First Day

Hi Bob I would say yes definitely the first stretch form STJPDP is very physical from Hunto to Orrison. Secondly the view from Orrison is magical and twenty minutes over coffee to drink it in because you are in a bed race for Roncesvalles doesn't cut it. Thirdly take the first four days easy...

Post Camino can things ever be normal again?

Since I've returned I've not experienced dawn with a new horizon filled with mist and sunshine my longing increases.... just to see one more yellow arrow would make my heart soar.. Daily I dream of Castrojeriz, of sitting in St Anton's drinking in the architecture. Walking in the heat with the...

    accommodation St Jean

I was able to book at the Aubergue du Pelerin just down from the Pilgrims office but it was my worse experience of the whole camino. The accommodation is ok but I'd eat somewhere else and the hospitalero was sadly pretty unfriendly. But fear not it gets much better in Spain

Post Camino can things ever be normal again?

So I'm back from the most amazing 38 days ever walking from STJPDP to Finisterre and Muxia .... and life returns to normal. The problem is I've changed, and watching video's of the Camino makes me cry. Bizarrely I long to be awake in an Albergue at 5:30 am packing my rucksack and anticipating...

The prayer used at Cruz de Ferro?

I find this conversation fascinating as a theologian and Priest. I think the rise in the last 30 years of the creating of shrines very interesting, especially at the site of accidents, in the apparel and tattoos of people, what people now place in graveyards, and even a resurgence of religious...
