    A street in Burgos

Bernabé Pérez Ortiz was born in 1878 and died in 1957. From what I have read, it seems that he was a philanthropist. Among other awards, he was given the title of Favourite Son of Burgos. "Due to his philanthropy and generosity, he earned several distinctions among those that stand out: • The...

    A street in Burgos

    Yes, here it is: https://www.burgosconecta.es/burgos/burgos-reconoce-trabajo-20180503144531-nt.html

    A street in Burgos

Burgos recognizes the work of Dr. Aurelio Alemán with the name of a street. The City Council has removed Bernabé Pérez Ortiz Street for failing to comply with the Law of Historical Memory and has awarded the honour to the well-known doctor specialized in the digestive system. This is Google...

    Portomarin Bridge Closure

It was Panorama and it was 1957. In those days you could get spaghetti in packets that were about 2 feet long, maybe a bit longer, wrapped in blue paper. But for the joke, they must have softened the pasta in the middle to hang each length over a branch of the tree. Now spaghetti only seems to...

    Hostal Acacia, Burgos

Yes, it's confusing, isn't it? Vivehotels.com tells us that "The Acacia Hostel is located in front of the Museum of Human Evolution and also of the Burgos Library." That's in Burgos, right? It also says that the address is "Bernabé Perez Ortiz, 1, 09004 Burgos, Spain". So why can't Google Maps...

    Hostal Acacia, Burgos

According to the sello in my credencial, I stayed at the Hostal Acacia, Burgos, in September 2014. I have no actual memory of the place, though my diary tells me I left the accommodation in the early evening and had forgotten where the entrance was when I got back. The sello is headed 'ACACIA *...

    From Atapuerca towards Leon

Be sure to take the river route into Burgos. There is so much to see in Burgos, it really needs a week at least, but, if you can only spare one day, spare it in Burgos.

    Variants without markers

I walked from the carretera to Corporales and Morales, if that's the route you mean. I saw that the road sign said "Grañón 8 km" and I knew that Grañón was where I needed to get to, so I just followed the road. If you come to a junction with no direction sign, either take the road that looks...

Where is the "drinking pilgrim" statue?

The scarecrow is shortly after Santibañez de Valdeiglesias, before the Crucero de Toribio.

Where is the "drinking pilgrim" statue?

I don't understand how you could miss this statue if you follow either camino from Hospital de Órbigo to Astorga. The Crucero de Santo Toribio is at the top of the hill, the statue of the drinking pilgrim [Sculpture "Sitio" (Tengo Sed) [I'm thirsty] (2014) by the artist Rosendo García Ramos...

Exploring Pena dos Corvos on Camino Francés

Thanks for all your efforts, Kathar1na. I really appreciate it. I have not been using Google Earth, just Streetview. I don't believe that you can get a view from near ground level with GE. When you get close to the ground it switches to Streetview. Even Streetview consists of photos taken from...

Exploring Pena dos Corvos on Camino Francés

I've looked at Streetview where Brierley put a panorama symbol, and there's nothing there to justify "enjoy panoramic views" and even less to justify "fantastic panoramic views" (imo). I also went back up the road to what appeared to be the highest point just before Moimentos (going back from...

Exploring Pena dos Corvos on Camino Francés

Who or what is the source of Brierley's map? It is not conventional, having north to the right, but it is obviously a professional job. It introduces a bit more confusion, which doesn't matter (much!). But, if the map is correct, we have Peña do Cervo, which Google Translates as "Stag's Rock"...

Monasterio de Santa Maria de Carracedo

I presume that yours is a group of ladies aged 65+, rather than a group of more than 65 ladies. If I am right, though the Pradela route is undoubtedly beautiful, and much quieter than following the major road (N-VI), it is very VERY steep in places (especially at the start. If your ladies are...

Exploring Pena dos Corvos on Camino Francés

Thanks, Everyone. What bothers me is, if Peña dos Corvos is not marked on any map, and there is no signpost saying "Peña dos Corvos 660m" (as there is at many other highpoints, like "Alto do Poio altitud 1.335 m"), how did anybody, including the great Brierley (RIP), find out or realise that...

Exploring Pena dos Corvos on Camino Francés

Have you heard of Pena dos Corvos? It is supposed to be a high point (660m) before Portomarin. Google Maps can find four Penas dos Corvos on the north coast of Galicia, but not on the CF. A lot of the camino references are suspiciously similar: The Camino ascends to a high point at Pena dos...

    Accommodations suggestions

Why do Americans say 'accommodations' where we (UK) say 'accommodation'? JOOTT. Tomato/tomato.

    Hotel Continental, St Jean PdP

I've learned that it is "closed and dilapidated" and "frequently squatted". "Temporarily closed" seems a bit optimistic! I'll have to content myself with a photo of the front door.

    Hotel Continental, St Jean PdP

My first camino, 2003, I turned up unannounced at 55 rue de La Citadelle, but they were full. They found me a bunk at Gite Compostella, which was fine. I intend to stay in St Jean for two days, so I could have a night in the auberge, if they have a bed.
