Excited for my upcoming bed reservation in Borda!

I stayed there last year. It's very nice. Enjoy.

When to start the Camino Frances? Crowds vs weather.

I left SJPDP on Monday, September 19, 2022. Arrived October 23. (As someone suggested above, leaving on a Monday can help avoid a wave starting on the weekend.) Crowds were a non-issue, even after Sarria. Don't let the complaints of busyness scare you away.

    Starting Before SJPDP

Better late than never! One idea comes to mind... In Lectoure... go to the tourist office and the keys to the tower. I was able to go up to the top all by myself. Wonderful views and being there by myself was especially cool. Bon Chemin!

    Starting Before SJPDP

I did August-September, but all seasons are wonderful. I speak no French, but I made it work. Everyone was gracious to the stupid American. ;)

    Starting Before SJPDP

I walked Le Puy to Santiago last year, and it struck me that there are several nice stages before SJPDP that could be added to the Frances as a “warm up.” My sisters and I are walking the Camino Frances this fall, and we're decided to walk three days before SJPDP. Here's our plan with some...

Comparison of Pilgrim statistics from SJPdP 2019 vs 2022

I started in Le Puy, and left from Sarria on October 18. I expected a river of people, but it didn't materialize. I swear it felt no more busy than the rest of the Frances. I'm guessing its for three reasons. First, it was relatively late in the season. Second, it was very rainy that week and I...

Lunch at Michelin Star Restaurants along the Camino: Pilgrim-friendly Attire Tips

I walked Le Puy to Santiago this fall. A met a close friend on the Le Puy route, and when we reached SJPDP, we decided to celebrate our half way point with lunch at Les Pyrénées (a one-star Michelin restaurant). As you would expect, the meal was wonderful and the price was about 10 times that of...

    Laundry Prices

I was under the impression that most places did not have laundry equipment so washing your clothes in the sink was the norm. Is that right? How often can you find places with washers and dryers? (I do my first camino next year. I'll be on the Le Puy route all the way to Muxia.)
