    Selfies with Saint James

There IS a sign stating photos are not allowed at the statue. Hugging the statue is not part of the sign. Some people respect rules, some don't. It's the lack of respect that irritates me...and when I see graffiti or littering on the Camino.

Not just sad now... Very sad.....

Lee...God bless you and your family, now and always. I'm sure your Mum will be with you in spirit, and your Dad will be sending all the positivity you'll need! Buen Camino, brother pilgrim. You've already begun... ((hugs from Spain))

any moments of "what the heck am I doing here" ?

Yes...the first 2 days were difficult from SJPP. It was raining, windy and cold. I had jet-lag, had trained in Dallas which is flat. For a week, right about 3pm, I fantasized about taking a train, bus, hitch-hiking - any way I could go the next day to perhaps the Meseta, as it would be easier...

Pilgrim Etiquette - LIVE from the Camino

There are some who think their "stuff" doesn't stink. It does! Taking care of your "stuff" and the tp involved is the responsible thing to do! Unfortunately, those who actually live on the caminos (or volunteers) go out and clean up the litter after we're gone so it doesn't end up being one...

    How much past Pamplona

I totally agree with you, Getting There...wondering if perhaps some people walk the fabulous Way blindfolded or perhaps just blinded by the beauty! hahaha

    Leaving in 6 days! help!

I agree with my fellow peregrinos answered above. You will have trying days, slower days, easy days, all incredible in some way! You will meet people you think you've known all your life. :) . And you'll get to know yourself better, too, 1 step at a time. Stay present to enjoy each moment...

    Finisterre Saved Our Camino

I thought I was ready for the loud, excited, new pilgrims who entered at Sarria. I'd been warned. At first I was cranky and intolerant because I'd started in SJPP and had a lot of time to find my rhythm and appreciated the lovely solace I'd grown to love. At first I thought maybe I'd stare them...

    Swollen hands and fingers

Trekking poles (walking sticks) really help with preventing sausage fingers. And poles help in various ways while long distance walking. There are many different situations along The Way where I was glad to have them. They are worth the investment, as far as I'm concerned. Just make sure to us...

    Camino Prayers

Hola... Here is one I found along the way...by Robert Corin Morris May I walk this day in the realm of grace, walking with You my feet firmly on your earth-path, my heart loving all as kindred, my words and deeds alive with justice. May I walk as blessing, meeting blessing at every...

    Drinking water..

Last year, we were warned not to drink from the fountains between Burgos and Leon due to pesticides in the water. Evidently, there hadn't been enough rain last year in that section. You can check with people along the way or at the pilgrim offices. But if it says "aqua potable" in the villages...

    I miss my Camino friends/family

I know your feelings. I, too, miss my new friends and family from my Camino. It's so amazing that one can become so close to others in such a short time. I think it's because we're living in such a wonderful world of here and now when on the Camino. What someone does for a living, how much or...

Alert Accident today involving Pilgrims at Santa Irene

Thank you for the post... I am so saddened by the loss of our Camino brothers. God bless their souls. What a tragedy...hoping they did not suffer. Prayers of compassion for their family and friends. May we all be extra careful while crossing roads. God bless all the pilgrims walking and riding...

    Thanks to All

Deborah, Buen Camino! What a lovely message! Yes, I know of your excitement, for I ventured out one year ago for my first Camino from SJPP to Santiago de Compostela. What a profound experience! And all those months prior, reading and learning from the forum was amazingly helpful...not one...

    Somewhat confused about baggage transport

I never called later than 9pm to make sure where they pick up and where they deliver. I suppose the more time you give them, the better. I stayed mostly in pensions or albergues with private rooms, so I was able to book by room, then let transport know where to take my bag. I carried a...

    It's Different This Year

Hola...I agree. It was lovely mid-Sept - mid-October in 2012. It was a profound experience...in a big way! The only time I became a bit irritated was when some of the people who started in Sarria were so loud...and very chatty. They hadn't gotten to the point of just "being" and letting the...

Preperation for 1st timer...One thing you wish you knew?

Hola, Lucyhead! As someone else said...they wished they had trained more on hills. Not many will tell you that it'd not easy. But I did it this past Sept/Oct., alone,(we are close in age) with people passing me all day long! :) it's important to train in the shoes or boots you intend to "become...

Dangerous exit for pilgrims on the way to Leon

Just at that point the barman decided to put on Beethoven's 5th Symphony, which just added to the trauma. We ended up running over it! Buen Camino! Hola! I loved that bar when I stopped there for breakfast before walking the dangerous bridge. The bar owner is a Beethoven aficionado...
