I checked my Osprey 58L Exos, also inside an air porter. No problem.
First year, I used a very large dry bag to hold my backpack.....worked fine.
I don't think that I would check the backpack unless it was inside "something" !
As was appropriately pointed out REI (recreational equipment Inc) is a US outfit, apologies !
I did notice that I left out a small scoop and toilet paper. Yes, I had them! Either bury used or pack out the merely wet (ladies take note)
I recently presented the contents of my Backpack to a meeting of the Charlotte NC afficionados of the Camino Santiago. Dr. Bob Barret asked me to commit the contents to paper. I reproduce them here with the hope that this might be of some assistance to a future Pilgrim.
I have walked the Camino...
Everyone is different but.....I have walked the Camino Frances twice...no blisters!
I wear Solomons 11.5 Mens shoes, my regular size is 10.5 and I wear "Wright" socks which are a double layer sock.......I wear this combo every time that I hike at home,as well. Works beautifully for me.
I am male...
Start in Leon (Camino Frances)....You will love it and don't spend any time worrying about the "Sarria start" folks. There are not THAT many. Besides they are on their Camino, not yours.
They are doing what they can, for whatever reason!!!
Thanks, Stephen....very nice thought. I am sorry that the marriage didn't work but it is amazing what happens once we realize that all we have to work on is "ourselves"
My story is very similar but, I am thankful to say, we did make it. Amazingly, she did seem to improve as I got better !!!
You...
Great to see this thread flesh out !
Except for my first few months when I was still incredibly embarrassed by my "drinking weakness", I have never hidden my Sobriety.
Over time, I have come to realize that being in recovery, particularly as a member of AA, has been the most positive, useful...
Wayfarer, I hadn't checked this thread in a while but I couldn't resist jumping in here.
You sent a nice note last year when I had to abandon my Camino.....which I did go back and complete a couple of months later. Your note, as well as other thoughtful peregrines, meant a great deal to me.
I...
Anne, you will do great. You get a lot of the same feelings with "fellow" Peregrinos as you do with the AA crowd.....you know.....kind of like an "our team" thing.
Never felt pressure to drink.....lots of wine flowing but plenty of folks just doing water and soft drinks......personally, Zumo de...
Gardengirl, I don't know how I missed this. Walked Camino Frances in Sept 2014 and probably passed each other out there. The trek was great and the Fanta Orange is a new favorite. Going again, but from Leon (time) on June 2.
How did it go for you?
I would like one if possible.

I had to return to Logrono last year after a back problem sent me home earlier in the year. I booked my first and second night in advance and just went with it the rest of the way.
Coming from the U.S. and a train to Burgos needs a "locked in" first night......having committed to a reasonable...
You have already received plenty of sound advice.
Let me add another... I have had both knees replaced and walked from StJeanPdP last year stopping in Orrison the first night (nice Albergue) and then to Roncevalles the second day. The climbs were strenuous but very doable. The downhill to...
Just re- read my own comments, along with all others and two words jump out at me..... One is mine "worthless". The other "inauthentic".
Both miss the point......everyone's "opinion" has value (even, if only to them).....My Bad !
As has been beautifully stated by others......."Authenticity"...
