While I am probably too far down the list for anyone to read, I shall venture forth regardless with my personal observations and recommendations based on first hand experience. I started my 1st (of 4) Camino Frances at the tender age of 70 years, 7 months, (solo) with a pack weight of 14 kilos...
I have completed four CF's, starting the first at Roncesvalles, the second from St. Jean going via Valcarlos, and the last two (most recently Oct / Nov of last year) via Orisson. Could I have made it from St. Jean to Roncevalles without stopping at Orisson? Yes. But I chose not to wanting...
I will be starting three days later. I walked the CF in Oct - Nov 2016 and had 10 or so days of some type of rain. Wasn’t that bad at all. My only issue was cold fingers. I am taking so,e what warmer gloves this time.
Buen Camino.
I was originally scheduled for May 2020. Changed the flight to October 2020. Just changed to April 2021. Arriving SJPdP 16 April. Will be going via Valcarlos this time. Went to Napoleon route last time. Buen Camino to all.
I stayed there in 2018. The owner told me of the marriage and showed me a signed photo of the group. He was very proud of the fact that his daughter (granddaughter?) married Taylor.
You have received a lot of great advice, and I am not sure that I can add anything meaningful, other than words of encouragement. I walked my first Camino Frances in 2015 at the age of 70. And my pack was somewhat over the highly touted 10% of body weight. When I depart SJPdP on 5 May I will...
May - June twice, 2015 and 2018. Overall beautiful weather. No rain 2015, several days in June 2018. Chilly in the early mornings, not too warm later. Started booking ahead in mid May 2015 because I wanted to, not because I needed too. Booked ahead in 2018 because at age 73, I did not want...
I am certain you are tired of reading responses, and may not even read this. I totally disagree with the general opinion that the first day is the most difficult. I have done both ways, Valcarlos and stopping at Orrison. I did not “train” one day and all three times my pack weighed over 30...
Greetings, and buen camino. You have received a lot of very good advice from other members. I would like to add my few cents worth. First, and foremost, as others have opined, THIS IS YOUR CAMINO, DO IT YOUR WAY. Here is a personal example. Prior to May, 2015, the start of my first Camino...
You have received some good advice and some I disagree with, so I will throw my nickel’s worth into the mix. I am 73, 6 feet, medium build. Don’t smoke. I crossed from Orisson yesterday, crappy weather. My pack weighs 30 pounds. I don’t train. I made it from Orisson to Roncesvalles just over...
I took only the phone and apps on my first two CF, and never missed having the Brierley at home. Found all the info I needed, and more, on the apps. Heading out the door in three hours for my third CF and again, Brierley will be left on the shelf. All in all, it is a matter of personal choice.
@A Good Wander. I booked for 3 May in December and only received a form with the conformation number. Yesterday at 21:00 Spanish time I sent an email requesting confirmation, hoping for a reply today. Within 30 minutes they replied that yes, I had a confirmed reservation.
