Your reaction to the American author reminded me of my reaction to some of the characters in The Way the first time I saw it. I found some of them to be so annoying and rude that I thought that if I encountered them on the Camino, I would do everything I could to avoid them. As the plot unfolded...
Yesterday someone told me that their custom, when they arrive at their daily destination, is to scout the route out of town while it’s still light, because it will be harder in the morning when it’s dark. Somehow that strategy has never occurred to me - probably because when I arrive at my...
I see that these posts are about a month old, so I wonder if you made your decision. I started in Roncesvalles in 2006 and made it to Los Arcos. Ten years later, I continued from the same albergue in Los Arcos and then stopped in Burgos. I used my original credencial and it was amusing to see...
I have walked two sections of the Frances in October and plan to return this October as well. Based on my experience, I plan to bring a lightweight waterproof and breathable rain jacket and rain pants and an umbrella ( I can wear layers under the jacket for warmth). For sleeping, I think I’ll...
Thanks to all of you for your replies and support. I'm finished with my Camino for this year and, in truth, my sleep never improved much but I never had such a bad day again and even the sleepless nights were worth it. I even had a profound, mystical, I can't describe it kind of a thing one of...
A German pilgrim said there are lots of ups and downs on the Camino and I said that yes it's a bit hilly. She said that's not what I mean. Now I know what she meant...The day before yesterday, my legs ached terribly and yesterday I had no problems at all (begging for a spare ibuprofen might have...
I have started another thread with the title "Song and lyrics for singing together on the Camino". Let's see if we can come up with a good list of songs.

Several other people have suggested that if someone were to bring a musical instrument on the Camino, they could also bring sheets of paper with song lyrics, so others could sing along. Does anyone have any suggestions for songs that would be good choices for this purpose? Some suggested songs...
I think you can do it. I'm planing on bringing my fiddle on my Camino next month. It was tricky figuring out the logistics, but I think I finally have a solution. My $20 yard sale fiddle will fit inside my backpack without a case (I have a cloth bag) and I can pack all my clothing etc around it...
I did my first section of the Camino 10 years ago and have been longing to return ever since. When I came home, I was really working through some things - wanting to bring the Camino experience home with me. I tried writing about it: http://practicalshoes.blogspot.com/2013/06/el-camino.html and...
