33 days is very doable from SJPDP without any rest days. To be on the safe side I’d recommend starting at Pamplona. Easy to get to and you will have cut off only three days from SJPDP. Buen Camino
I would say that Astorga should give you a good buffer in the event of delays and will make your last two weeks relatively easy to moderate. There is a bus from the Madrid Airport and Santiago as well.
I really enjoyed the common meal at Alburge Roboleira in Fonfría. They have a separate thatched roofed round yurt with long tables and the vibe at the dinner I attended was very nice. Buen Camino.
I think this reply hits the nail on the head of the pluses and minuses. One additional plus. After checking in, go to the basement and they will do your laundry for a minimum fee. May not seem like a big deal after only two days but it is a service you will learn to appreciate after several...
Based on two weeks availability Astorga would be a great place to start. It will give you a comfortable amount of travel time on both sides. I met many Canadians on my Camino in May and most were solo women. You will meet people day one. Buy some wool socks; buy some good hiking lightweight...
I originally booked Orrison for April 30 when my flight into Biarritz was arriving at 12:00. The arrival is now at 5:00 PM so there is no way for me to start hiking on April 30. I'm going to start May 1 and walk through to Roncesvalle on day 1 EXCEPT the short stop I will be making in Orrison...
I am still waiting to start my pilgrimage (May 1, 2017) so my opinion may not be as valid as those who have already completed the journey. I purchased the Brierley Guide and find it a tuff read. I then purchased Hiking the Camino de Santiago byDintaman and Landis. It's an easier read for me. I...
It looks like I'm with all of you May 1. I checked my flights and the flight arrival in Biarritz on April 30 changed from 12:50 hrs to 17:00 so I want be able to start tracking to Orisson the day I arrive. I'll spend the night in SJPDP and off to Roncensvilla May 1. I'll see you all on the trail!
I'm a first timer so I have no idea. But, I'll be starting late that day. My biggest factor will be him long it takes me to get from Biarritz to SJPDP by taxi. I'm a young 59 so I'll have your back if you start late.
Return flight on June 7 from Santiago so I have plenty of time. I'm giving myself 33 days to Santiago and 3 days to Muxia. That leaves an extra day in Santiago. I have been hiking about 30 miles the last six or so weekends to see how it would feel. Glad I did. While the distances are not a...
Changed my plans when I heard how crowded September was this year. I now have reservations April 29 Denver to Dallas to Madrid to Biarritz arriving the 30th at 1230.
Akareeta is a small hamlet just past Larrasoana. Check out the hotel website http://www.hotelakerreta.com. Appparantly, a scene in the movie The Way was shot at the hotel.
I may take your advice and instead of doing a short walk to Orrison I'll stay in SJPDP and start fresh and go one day to...
No. I figure I'll tack on the distance I did on day .5 (SJPDP to Orrison) to what I'm calling my real first day. That 5 miles tacked on to Roncesvalles will take me to Espinal. It looks like there is a great little Alburge Haizea Rural Hostal in Espinal. If you have a different recommendation...
