    Coping with rainy weather

I recommend an umbrella. If it is not too windy, you can keep your top half pretty dry. Rain pants and Sealskinz socks for bottom half.

    Pack Recommendations

I love my Gregory Z30 pack. It has served me well for something like 2500 miles of loaded walking. 30 Liters.

    Camino Frances

You should have time to order a European charger for your phone. Not expensive and less bulky than a charger plus adapter. I got one from Amazon.

do people bring gifts to give to other pilgrims?

I have brought a few small zipper-pull type compasses to give away. They are light and inexpensive but have seemed to carry both practical and symbolic value.

    Phone / Money

I have ATT and bought a small data package and International phone package. I think it is called "Passport". I was careful to use wifi as much as possible. That way I was able to keep my same number. I highly recommend WhatsApp for texting…get your close contacts to sign up before you go and...

    Anti Bed Bug/Insect Repellent

I'll throw my pilgrim hat in here. I think you need to assume you're going to get bedbugs. Bedbugs themselves and their bites, for most people, are not a huge deal. Bringing them home and infesting your house? THAT'S a big deal. I also did not want to douse myself in repellents every night for...

Best time of year to do Camino Frances?

I walked the Frances last year departing St. Jean sept 21. It was very busy the first few days but rapidly thinned out. The weather was great. I walked 28 days to Santiago and it was already getting cooler and wetter by then. Good time to go, I think.

    Walking through town and cities...

I would just say read your guidebook carefully and be aware of getting onto less-desirable options going through cities. Burgos, in particular, I got sucked in by yellow arrows without watching what I was doing and wound up taking a pretty bleak route into the city. Found out later there was a...

    Biarritz - SJdP

I found this company online. http://www.biarritzairporttransfers.com I have not used them but they get good reviews on Tripadvisor. I think I will try them going the other direction after I do Le Puy to St. Jean this fall. Just sounds more straightforward than bus/train/taxi options. Also...

    Sleeping Bag September October

Go with the lighter bag. I went the same dates last year with a very light bag and it was fine. If it gets chilly you can wear a sweater to bed.

    Panicking...

    Go.

summer footgear - waterproof or no?

I also would recommend not doing the waterproof shoes/boots as they do not breathe well in dry conditions. I used Sealskin waterproof socks on rainy days and was very pleased with their performance.
