Just north of Canaveral, the Via de la Plata passed through the parking lot of a "puti club" aka brothel. They were closed when I walked through being mid-morning, so I was not able to ask for a sello. I wonder if the Pilgrim's Office would notice if I had a sello from a brothel?
I was walking the Via de la Plata recently, and yes, between Canaveral and Galisteo the Camino route goes right through the parking lot of the brothel/puticlub El Puerto. There were cars in the parking lot, so I stopped and rang the bell to see if I could get a sello. It was about 10 AM. Rang...
A wealth of good advice in this thread, I love it. And, as has been pointed out, your last "fear" suggests that you fear a positive outcome. So I, like so many others here, say, "go for it."
I am reminded of a favorite quote from the book "My Oxford Year" by Julia Whelan:
Buen Camino,
--james--
I have walked the Camino Frances twice from St. Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela, once in the springtime, and once in the autumn. After my first pilgrimage walk, I felt, as many do, that I had unfinished business with Saint James and was drawn to make the pilgrimage walk again. In...
I recall hearing an interview with Emilio Estevez in which he said that he needed a means for the main character to go to his lowest point emotionally, deeply question his motives and why he was doing the Camino, and then rise out of that emotional darkness. The stolen backpack incident and...
On my two walks on the Camino Frances, I mostly stayed in private accommodations, and as has been said, every accommodation will have a sello for your credential. Then I got a sello where I had my second breakfast or cafe con leche stop, a sello at churches, a sello where I had lunch, dinner...
I walked the Camino Frances from SJPdP to Santiago de Compostella., first in the spring of 2016 and then in the autumn of 2017. What I posted earlier on a different thread was:
Knowing much about what each day will bring, perhaps I can immerse myself even more in the beauty of spring in...
I, too, am a bit of a stamp-a-holic. On my first Camino Frances, I filled two credentials. When I presented them at the pilgrim's office, the lady said to me, "it appears you like the stamps." Yes, I love the stamps, as has been said by many on this forum, the stamps are a memory of where I...
I was bothered by the Burgos scenes in The Way. I could not imagine anyone stealing a pilgrim's backpack (but I also would not have left it outside the bar). My interpretation of that series was that they needed a vehicle for Tom to hit a very low point, questioning his being there, from which...
"The Way" also touched my heart. My parents named me for Saint James. Thus I had heard many times in my life about this pilgrimage in Spain to the cathedral where the remains of Saint James are said to be interred. I saw the film "The Way" in 2013 or so. It got me thinking. In 2015, my mother...
This discussion seems to surface frequently. And I smile. I love the stamps, and have no difficulty getting far more than the required minimum, as do many others.
Camino Frances 1 from SJPdP, 83 sellos in 33 days (average 2.5 per day)
Camino Frances 2 from SJPdP, 146 sellos in 32 days (average...
I cannot agree more with the signature of @Koidream - the Camino will never leave you. And, when you return, @Lucyk, it may be very special.
I walked the Camino Frances in the spring of 2016. On the meseta at Fromista, I became ill, saw a doctor, and continued. At Carrion de los Condes, I was...
Greetings! I suggest you get two credentials at the pilgrim's office in SJPdP. I love the stamps - they are the best memory of all the places along the way: the places in which I stayed, the churches I visited or in which I prayed or meditated, the great meals I had, and various other places...
I heard and was under the impression that there is a Pilgrim's Office at the Notre Dame de Paris, see https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/credential-from-cathedral-de-notre-dam-paris-or-just-stamp.52786/
In that discussion, it is not really a pilgrim's office at the Notre Dame...
I have used Allianz for two Camino trips and several trips to Asia. I bought insurance to cover the trip as well as medical. I have filed a claim, and have nothing but outstanding things to say about Allianz - good customer service. I highly recommend Allianz. I am in the U.S. and bought my...
I LOVE your energy, excitement, ambition. Your Camino will be magical!
On the subject of the sellos - I love the sellos. On my last Camino Frances, I averaged 4 per day from SJPdP to Sarria, and then 8 per day from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela. I got a sello at accommodations, bars...
Slow down, you'll be fine. Breathe.
A most excellent mantra, from a venerable source:
I breathe in,
I breathe out,
I have arrived,
I am home,
In the here,
and in the now.
I am strong,
I am free,
In the ultimate,
I dwell.
I breathe in,
I breathe out.
Repeat, and breathe...
(thanks to Thich...
I agree with JabbaPapa - get a stamp at your home parish if your pastor gives your pilgrimage a blessing, then at Madrid, and again at Fromista and all along the way to Santiago de Compostela. The stamps before you start the walk at Fromista represent milestones on your pilgrimage and are worthy...
Astorga is a very interesting and underrated city. Stunning cathedral, rich history, good museums. The Museo Del Chocolate was a little more challenging to find than we expected, but well worth the effort. We thoroughly enjoyed the museum and the chocolate we purchased. (And some even made it...
