Spanish Pilgrimage: A Canter to St. James by Robin Hanbury-Tenison is the story of following the Camino on horseback, published in 1988 by Arrow Books. They had a friend going along by car who found lodging and accommodation for the horses. Description of their experience with a liberal mix of...
It is a lovely stroll through beautiful countryside, an opportunity to visit small villages, to meet local people if one takes time, to experience another culture....
Don’t allow the age thing to get you! I began “Camino-ing” at 82. Guess my theme song would be “I did it my way”. Had read books but did not yet know about this website. Had Brierly and had used Booking.com in the past and thought I could again if needed. Although I had lived in Europe, I...
I followed the Camino Frances at 82 and made quite a few adjustments in order to manage. Hiking poles - yes! And use one at home now too as my balance is poor. Send backpack by Jacotrans or Os Correos. 10 km a day is plenty! If you need to use public transit, it is not a sin requiring...
I found Albergue Acuario just beyond Monte de Gozo and off “the” path. A little tricky to find. Quirky. Not for pilgrims only. Can stay as long as you like if there is space.
Good advice above - I won’t repeat.
And remember you can find things you need along the way. E.g. I wore the wrong shoes my first time and found the right ones at a shop in Logrono.
May you know you are never really alone. Blessings
I used the tap water all along without any problems. Took a little water filter and never used it. Here at home I have been using a Brita filter pitcher. When I got home, I thought “what??? I have just been using tap water for a month and I don”t trust Tacoma water”.
I am 84. Just followed the Portuguese doing as suggested above. Was not interested in a Compostela so did not visit the office in SdC. Did have a credential from APOC and had it stamped for the beauty of the stamps. Timing was right to attend the noon mass with swinging of the Botafumeiro...
Yes! To need to reserve. I am here SdC and left reserving on ALSA too late. But! Was able to get a ticket online through Eurolines. Whew...
Will be in Lisbon a couple of days to begin to process before going home. Has been a very different experience from the Frances in 2015.
Not wierd to me! I have done my own speed because my feet and ankles won’t go fast. I do like it for many reasons but simply am not able to follow the “typical” pattern. If it just doesn't work for you that is okay. “Not a good fit” is not failure.
