    Break O’Cebreiro climb

My thighs hurt, but I would certainly ride again! Have never heard anyone say it hurt so bad they wouldn’t do it again.

    Break O’Cebreiro climb

Stayed at Casa Susi in Trabadelo, then walked to La Escuela to overnight. Single beds & great food in the restaurant. Next morning 1.5 km to O Cebrio (sunrise!!!!) then on to Fonfria. Have ridden the horses too & it makes for a unique experience. Use Jacotrans for transport.

Sleeping bag or just liner (starting Frances at SJPdP on April 25th)

Have walked this stretch the last 2 springs, April and May, and it was cold at night and in the mornings, like around 2°C. most mornings until almost the end of May. I was very glad to have my cosy sleeping bag.

Where is the most reliable accommodation information?

I find that albergue owners know what is happening. Ask them. Then see if they will call to the next town for you and reserve a bed. Buy them a coffee or a beer or a wine when they do this favor for you. Make sure you show up at that albergue the next day so your reservation is not wasted.

Any recommendations for where to stay in Hornillos and El Burgo Ranero

They had services in the church in Hornillos last year that were lovely. Bit of a surprise how ornate it was inside.

Pamplona to Estella in three gentle days (March 18-20 ish)?

I agree, walking to Uterga from Pamplona is far enough for the 1st day. I barely made it to Obanos on my 1st Camino and wished that I had stayed in Uterga. Another suggestion is to perhaps stay near the edge of Pamplona instead of in the middle near the Cathedral? Saves a lot of km. that 1st...

Pamplona to Estella in three gentle days (March 18-20 ish)?

We walked Pamplona to Uturga, then to Maneru, then to Estella.

    Re: My First Camino

Boots and shoes are about 50-50. You will see this on the racks in the albergues. I am a boot person, all year round. It is all I ever wear, cause my feet feel comfortable in them. For all the asphalt and gravel and mud, they are fantastic. The cafe in front of Albergue Mirador in O Pedrouzo...

    On line reservations for accommodations

Most places do want you to call the day before or sometimes 2 days before, to reconfirm. They have had so many people simply not show up, that some places are turning to booking dot com so they are assured of getting their money. I don't blame them.

    Memorable Places

Saint Nikolas, a donativo about 11km past Castrojeriz. Go to sleep by candle light. Simply a wonderful experience. The Parochial in Zabaldika is fantastic. Church ruins outside of Zubiri that are being restored by a passionate man. Spend some time chatting with him and leave a donation. The...

Places to stay in o pino

Have stayed the last 2 years at the Mirador. Nice beds, great facilities, wonderful pool, and the cafe in front, opens at 06:00, so you can get an early start walking to Santiago. Lots of other great restaurants in this town. I felt it is the right distance from Santiago for my last days walk.

Where in Camino Frances (800km) Route Do I need to Spend more Time exploring the Cities/Towns?

Well, I am really, really slow due to some breathing problems. Everyone passes me all day long, while I stop and catch my breath. I also like to stop and take photos. A lot of photos. It is my hobby. That is the good part about the Camino, it works for everyone no matter how slow or fast they...

Where in Camino Frances (800km) Route Do I need to Spend more Time exploring the Cities/Towns?

33 days! That sounds awful and not very much fun. I spent 47 days last spring and but wish I had even longer. I prefer walking shorter days and I have already seen the popular towns where one takes a rest day. My recommendations - Burgos, Astorga, Castrojeriz, Navarete, Leon, Samos, Pamplona

    Sarria too busy?

The last 2 years, have stayed in Barbadelo which is about 3km outside of Sarria. When you leave here at 06:30, it is peaceful and quiet and you won't see any crowds til about lunch time and then they have thinned out a bit anyway. Leaving Portomarine, there seemed to be a huge crowd leaving at...

“All” Albergues on the Camino Frances in one pdf 2.0

Oh wow, had no idea. He is a bit of an odd ball to be honest. Great cook & cheap prices, and he hates Jakotrans. He is not averse to luggage transport, but doesn't allow Jakotrans to pick up or deliver.

“All” Albergues on the Camino Frances in one pdf 2.0

Can someone add Albergue Karma in Sansol, to the list? Have stayed here twice.

Excited for my upcoming bed reservation in Borda!

Loved my stay there. Perfect way to end your first day walking, with delicious food, new friends, and the cosiest bed on the Camino. Woke to a beautiful sunrise, a breakfast, packed lunch, and headed off to Roncesvalles. I would stay there a week if I could.

    Refuge Orisson vs. Auberge Borda

I have stayed in both of them. Both of them have communal meals, but the food and friendliness of the host at Borda is a lot better. Both have a lovely community feel to them. Borda has better beds and facilities though. A lot better. If I had to pick between the 2 of them, I would choose Borda...

    Auberge Borda

Stayed there in April, 2023. It was the high point of my Camino last year. The beds, the facilities, the meals, the host, and of course the views, were all absolutely top notch. If I was to walk the CF one more time, I would make my reservation there 1st and plan everything else around it...

    Albergue in Leon

Stayed at Globetrotter in 2022 for 2 nights and did not enjoy it at all, except the location being near the cathedral. Bathrooms were nasty, the loud partying outside and upstairs and the women staying up all night inside, meant very little sleep, plus it was horribly hot and you could not open...
