    How to order Pinxtos?

Yep, one of the best bargains in the world. Just point. As said before "uno de esos" works just fine. I don't remember where exactly, but much of Spain you can still get pixtos. I know in Galacia you can. There are some really great pixtos stops in Santiago. One called the "Cathedral" I believe...

Finding my way along the route

I just used the arrows on my five Caminos (and I'm 74). I also had an app that has maps embeded so that if I "think" I'm lost, I can just check and see how far astray I've gone and then use google or apple maps to get me back on track. That said, I've probably made at least one bad turn on...

    Terrain through the meseta

You can take a look at the stages here. I video'd most of the Camino, so you can see what you'll be walking on. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRFjODAj_lri0NxNgf5iJJe8axCcKRf3D

    Flies. Just sayin…

At least in my experience, they didn't bite. Just flew around and annoyed you. After awhile, you stop noticing unless there are really a lot of them.

LIVE from the Camino Falling ill on the camino

Sitting in a hotel in Cee with a little gastro bug that makes thinking about food ( let alone walking) unbearable.

Picking grapes from vineyards along the way

Never eat anything that hangs over the trail or is on the lower branches. You never know how it was watered.

Camino Francés Federación to ban suitcases in their albergues (11 albergues affected by this rule)

I will take a little contrian view here. I really support the idea of municipal albergues taking a stand about transported suitcases. That makes sense given the logistics of handling the bags and the limited resources that those albergues usually have. Many people have taken advantage of the...

    RETHINK walking the Frances

Very well said Saves me all the time of typing I'm glad that I did my CF in 2015. I'm also glad that I am walking the last stages of the Sanabres (from Ourense to Santiago) and then the Camino Ingles. I'm not finding the crowds but then the Sanabres isn't the CF. I suspect that you are spot on...

Valcarlos route : some practical questions, please

You are right. The first day is very easy. The second day not so much. The climb up before descending into Roncesvalles is quite steep (but beautiful). So be prepared.

Tips for Tackling O Cebreiro Hill During Your Camino Walk

Yes, and your advice should be generalized. As I walked more Caminos (and got older), it became VERY apparent that I had to look at both the distance for the day the TOTAL changes in elevation. My distance per day now varies from 10K to 30K depending on the total changes in elevation. I also...

Why is the statue of a caveman there?

I don't know the who part but I think this will answer your question as to why: https://viajecaminodesantiago.com/en/french-way/triacastela/

Rely on wifi or get a data plan?

You don't need a SIM card until you don't have WiFi coverage and find out that the next town where you wanted to stay is booking up rapidly. Get a SIM card and then not worry.

    83 years young

While only 73, I agree with you on the slower aspects. Last year, I had to face the reality that I couldn't walk 15-18 miles a day any longer without the pleasure going out of the walk. Once you realize that, and cut back to 10-12 max you have more of a day to just sit back and absorb where you...

How many days are needed for the Camino Frances ?

I did it when I was 65 and spent that number of days as well. Why rush it?

    Alternative POV

My wife calls the taxi to get me to the airport :) Seriously though, it is the mark of a successful and healthy partnership when one partner likes to see the other enjoy activities that are not part of other's desires or needs. My wife thinks that walking day after day and every day and staying...

Advice: should we attempt SJPP to Roncesvalles?

I think it is too nice of a walk to do it in one day. You can either go via Valcarllos, find a place in Orisson, or walk to Orisson with a taxi back and forth to break it up. The scenery is so good that it seems a waste to just go by it in one day.

SJPDP budget friendly places to eat

I'll have to second Dave Bugg's recommendation Chez Dede. If not there, somewhere else where you can try Basque cuisine. It has unique tastes and preparation. And make sure you try a good Basque cider with the dinner. You'll have enough wine over the next few weeks or months as you walk. I...

    Organised tour or do-it-yourself?

I find that the ability to not worry about where to stay for the night has allowed me to spend more time talking with the people that I meet, appreciating the culture, and just being able to wander around a town. I've walked for days with the same group of people who have not reserved ahead -...

    Organised tour or do-it-yourself?

I've used walkthecamino.com to setup my stops and luggage transfers. They do a great job. In 1000 miles of Caminos, I've only had a few problems, all of which were remedied very quickly. They are also available 24/7 if you do have a problem with their services. Yes, you could do it yourself...
