    Fire destroys the Pieros albergue

A gofundme has been started for El Serbal y la Luna. Here's the link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/incendio-del-albergue-el-serbal-y-la-luna

    Fire destroys the Pieros albergue

In 2016, a friend of mine, Lou, was hospitalera for the season at El Serbal Y la Luna (the owner had to be away that year, so she enlisted Lou to keep it going). Lou invited me to stop for awhile, and I enjoyed 6 days of switched roles... helping pilgrims instead of being one. It was a joyous...

    Corazon Puro Returning?

One of the best things about Corazon Puro is how they would pick you up at the Pamplona train station...overnight at their lovely place, then drive you to SJPdP the next morning. SO convenient, and a wonderful way to start. Anyone know if anyone else is doing that?

Looking for Pics of the Museo Del Chocolate in Astorga

Thanks so much, Oldbikerider. Lucky you to live in Astorga! My friend told me she has enough now...people have posted some really nice ones. I'll post the article when she adds the Museo Del Chocolate to it. :)

Looking for Pics of the Museo Del Chocolate in Astorga

Rozenn, what is your last name, so they can give you photo credit?

Looking for Pics of the Museo Del Chocolate in Astorga

In fact, the article already includes that chocolate museum, but not the one in Astorga. That's why I contacted my friend. Astorga deserves some love too!

Looking for Pics of the Museo Del Chocolate in Astorga

Do you have a good pic of the front of the building? That would be great. Margaret already provided two fantastic interior pics.

Looking for Pics of the Museo Del Chocolate in Astorga

These are perfect, Margaret! Would you like for them to give you photo credit?

Looking for Pics of the Museo Del Chocolate in Astorga

Yes, it's easy to do a Google search, but Atlas Obscura needs original photos with permissions. That's why I reached out here.

Looking for Pics of the Museo Del Chocolate in Astorga

I would say YES. I enjoyed it, even though (at the time...2016) the exhibits did not have English translations. I think you could try to read them with Google Translate. BTW, free chocolate at the end!

Looking for Pics of the Museo Del Chocolate in Astorga

Hi Folks. A friend of mine is an editor at Atlas/Gastro Obscura. Recently they posted an article with a list of museums around the world that are dedicated to a specific food (did you know that there is a Baked Bean Museum in Wales?). When I pointed out that they missed the Museo Del...

    Leaving dog home question

If you know any young adults who've had to move back in with their parents (common these days), you might consider inviting them to come and stay in your house and take care of the dog. That's what we did with a 20-something young friend of mine. Although she loves her dad, she was very happy...

    Donation Box

Many people read on their phones (and it works great for them)...but I really dislike reading much on my phone, plus trying to use many of the guidebooks on the kindle phone app is a nightmare. Since my Kindle is only 9.5oz, and allows me to forego carrying any books at all (including guide...

    Donation Box

Re: finding books in albergues. I can not imagine walking without a book. I'm very social, but really need my alone time as well, and especially like to read myself to sleep. But books are heavy, I'm picky about what I read, and managing a light in bed in an albergue at night without disturbing...

    Have you been sponsored?

For my first Camino (SJPdP to SdC) I held a fundraiser for our local drop-in center for Homeless Youth (where I volunteer). We just set it up through their website. Raised about $1800 U.S. Although the $ came mostly from my friends, extended friends and family, I doubt most of them would...

If you had time to explore

Do not miss the Museum of Human Evolution in Burgos. One of the best I've seen.

Quick “The Way” synopses (and tribute)

I love the movie, and that's exactly how I use it Phoenix. And, I add the additional caveat that two unrealistic parts of the movie are the no one ever has blisters or gets rained on. Also, not everyone ends up with a "Camino family". Other than that it's a pretty good representation of what...

    Question regarding Compostela

One other thing. When I went to get my Compostela the day after I arrived in Santiago they insisted on putting that day's date on my Compostela, even though I told then I'd arrived the day before. It didn't matter in the slightest to me, but might to someone else. This is just one person's...

    Credential...enough space?

Another reason to get 2 identical credentials: If you want to frame it afterwards, you'd like to be able to see both sides, right? Just get stamps on one side of the 1st credential, and stamps on the other side of the 2nd credential, and you will have a much easier time of it with the framing...

    Dogs

We met that exact guy one rainy day on the Meseta in early May 2016! Same two doggos, same story. The puppy was very busy playing "ambush" with the older dog, who was valiantly attempting to sleep (and being extremely tolerant). We gave him some extra food we had, for which he was grateful.
