I am losing precious days. I am degenerating into a machine for making money. I am learning nothing in this trivial world of men. I must break away and get out into the mountains to learn the news.
John Muir, 1883
After walking the Frances and the ingles last year which I really enjoyed.
I came to the conclusion that the older I become the more precious time is and money becomes less so . This year I'm walking the whole summer already completed the Frances from St Jean and the Norte from Irun. Having an...
The English alburgue in Rabanal allows camping and Hammocks as does the belgian one in los Arcos also Amancer alburgue in Villamentero de campos Roncevalles municipal aswell. Sorry if this reads a bit incoherant I arrived in Santiago an hour ago from the monastry in Sobrago going thorough Arzua...
The ingles is a nice walk 5 days easy,or 4 days moderate, or 3 days brutal.
I arrived in Santiago at 9pm last night from Melide, was a bit pissed off at dropping my camera and needed to buy a new one so I just went for it.
We probably passed each other at some stage. Goodluck on your remaining...
I walked this way last year, really enjoyed it. Only saw 2 others on the route. Will be doing the Dragonte variant this year, cant wait. Only 21 days until lift off.
I agree one person making a little noise is no big deal, but over a period of time with the amount of pilgrims dragging, slamming and generally leaving poles lying anywhere they deem fit gets a little old after a while. Every little bit of relief helps the locals out, even the vastly...
I prefer to walk through a town/village quietly . For the sake off 10 mins without using poles the locals will thank you. No need to come out with the old chestnut about using rubber tips, poles still make a noise especially the shock tip versions. A little consideration for the local residents...
Some Alburgues will allow camping as others have said. There was a good thread a couple months back, use the search function. All of your questions will be answered in that thread. It is possible to camp every night on the Frances and the Ingles, can't comment on any of the other camino's .
I stayed Friday and Saturday nights at the Hotel Castillo de Javier. Perfect location for me, right in the middle of the oldtown on a tiny street packed with people bars and restaurants ,great fun. Cost 35 Euro per night. Room was clean and well equipped.
Some good advice on this thread. Main thing is, don't go to fast early on, shorten your stride going up hill, learn how to use walking poles . A lot of peeps tend to speed up with poles and push off with the ball of the foot to hard, this is a cause of tendonitis/shin splints. Shoes need to be...
Love my Paktowl holds 10x its own weight in water and can be wrung out like a sponge . when I'm camping I wipe off all the dew and any condensation from the tent with my towel, wash myself with a wet wipe then have a nice cold rinse off with fresh dew water. If the sun is rising and the view...
I like Crocs wear them all the time in my workshop, but for my extra shoes on the Camino I prefer my Teva light weights, a smidge over 400g, really nice and airy after a long day.
Edit: They also pack flat.
If you see a guy wearing bright green shoes, black and yellow tights with a bright orange shirt that will probably be me. I arrive just after 7pm sjdpp 5th april start out on the 6th. Don't be shy to say hola.
Buen Camino.
