LIVE from the Camino The September Wave: Increase in Pilgrims and Availability of Beds

Hi. I worked in the SJPdP Pilgrim Office one week from 28th of August and it was really crowded for a few days. Lots of rain and not enough beds in SJPdP. My advise for next year is - start one week before or after 1st of September if possible. It might be less crowded then.

LIVE from the Camino A better start from sjpp today

I was in SJPdP around 10 days ago and it was crowded. No beds left for those who didi't book ahead. What was it like now?

    Guidebook Guidance please!

I would use the old guide book and communicate with my pilgrim fellows on the Camino. The app Wise pilgrim is super if you want to use the smart phone, you find everything there. Buen Camino Maggi

Pilgrims Office, SJPP - Hiking Poles

If you don't find them in SJPP, there is always a good possibility to find some in a pilgrim hostel.

How busy will Camino Frances be in June, 2023?

Interrail - that's the answer! That will take two full days and the night train through Germany. It's by far the best and most economic way to travel through Europe, both for the wallet and the nature. I've done it a few times already. There's a splendid app called Rail Planner, where you can...

How busy will Camino Frances be in June, 2023?

Hi all Pilgrims. So many nice walks in the world, and so little time... I have walked the Camino Frances in September - October, the Portugues in October, the Via Podiensis in May - June and the Piemont Pyrenées in May - June. I always walk alone. In the first part of the Pyrenées from Beziers...

    I bought my ticket!

Sounds great! I did the Camino Frances in 2014. This year I'm working on the Piemont Pyrénées. Did the first part this spring, and will go to Lourdes to start the very last part to SJPdP from 18th of September. Buon Camino!

    I want to go back!

Hi Matt. I know the suffering and pain you're talking about, even if - luckily - I didn't suffer much on the Camino. I've been there four times, in both Camino Frances and Via Podiensis, and this year I might do the Camino Norte. But the Camino Frances is something special, so I haven't quite...

10 Top Tips for Walking the Camino Francés

I don't remember having complained about people using a head lamp, but I definitely have been bothered by them. Not only in the dormitory, but more outside in the dark. The problem is, when someone with the head lamp says something to you he/she also looks at you. And so does the lamp... Do use...

    Seeking advice for sleeping bag

I walked the Camino Frances in September and October with a sleeping bag for summer, and it was quite enough. Even when it was a bit chilly outside, I was perfectly warm and comfortable in my very light weight thin sleeping bag. Mostly a silk liner would have been enough. The less you carry...

    Pilgrims Office of SJPP

So true! I plan to apply for volunteering in that office next year - working all summer this year in spite of being retired. Hope you will all come then!

Two pilgrims rescued in Napoleon Route

Great job, Bombardieros! And good thing to write about it. Even pilgrims should know better than crossing the Pyrenees in wintertime. There is a reason for all these warnings.
