Walking the Camino Frances a second time... good or bad idea?

I cannot tell you what to do, only share my experiences with you. I wanted to walk the Frances a second time this year. We started in Lourdes this time. When we reached Puente de la Reina I almost immediately felt bad. It was not at all a feeling of 'coming home' as I had imagined. I...

Hat or No Hat? That is the question!

I brought a (very) broad-rimmed hat but switched to a cap because the brim touched the upper part of my backpack and so kept falling of my head. It was annoying. A cap with some protection for the neck would be an option for me.

Burgos to Leon .. Only 5 days (what parts would you take a bus?)

I'd do the same as Margaret. It took me 5 days to walk to Bercianos del Real Camino. After that, it is two days of next-to-the-road walking into Leon. Charming in its own way, but not the most beautiful walk imho. Buen camino!

Vegetarian albergues/restaurants on the Camino Frances

I found this website: http://www.restaurantesvegetarianos.es/, which lists vegetarian restaurants in all of Spain. I found rest./bar Los Delirios del Quijote (http://www.restaurantesvegetarianos.es/?option=com_sobi2&sobi2Task=sobi2Details&sobi2Id=149&Itemid=194) on there which I am hereby adding...

Vegetarian albergues/restaurants on the Camino Frances

Maurice - Thank you for making the list. My new guidebook tells me this about Agés: "Albergue San Rafael, private, 10 beds, wifi, etc. Open all year, offers vegetarian and Celiac (gluten free) meals." The map shows that when entering the town, the albergue is immediately on your left hand side...

    Frances alone or with boyfriend...

I get the same feeling from the replies here. I have walked from St. Jean with my boyfriend and we had an absolutely wonderful time. We also met tons of camino friends, some people we still speak to and even meet. Sharing the camino has brought us closer together. However, if you're feeling...

    Elvis' bar

This man is the funniest! He was awesome! :D Made us vegetarian dinners even though they weren't on the menu. Great spirit, I recommend everyone to have a stop there.

    how is this packing list?

David - thank you for sharing. You've given me something to think about. I have an ereader and had planned to take it along with a whole library, but your point makes sense. Sometimes, it is good to have 'nothing' to do. I'm really going to consider leaving all those books at home and take just...

New albergue in Villares de Órbigo

This was an alternative route? I'm only finding out now! Anyway, it was beautiful. It has a steep descent with a lot of loose stones (where I fell). David helped me with medical treatment and gave us some homemade lemonade. Some of the best camino memories.

camino shell - up or down?

Tyrrek, I've always looked at the shell sign and thought the thin part symbolizes Santiago and the grooves radiating toward it symbolize the roads. In that way, the sign should always 'point' it's thin part to the right road. It wasn't always like this on the camino Frances.

Credential - the new Camino de la Fe

I have received these from the Peterborough Diocese for a donativo. Are they replacing the 'old' ones with the scallop and squash? It looks like this:

    First a few questions

I really wouldn't recommend camping, unless you have done it before and know about the weight you are going to be carrying. You might be underestimating it...

    It's Different This Year

You are absolutely right, sometimes we have no control over our feelings. I didn't mean to say that I always smile whenever something bad happens. All respect to Annie, I can totally imagine how she must feel. All I'm saying is that since we do not have te power to change things like this (you...

What is the one albergue you would avoid?

Indeed! I had a lovely experience at the municipal in Najera in June 2012. Very welcoming hospitaleros, one of which was a very aimable Canadian woman. They had made fresh fruits that they put out on plates for the pilgrims to have upon arrival. Lovely people. You are right, the albergue itself...

October Camino - How warm/thick of a Fleece or Jacket?

That's what I would be going for, too.

    It's Different This Year

Well maybe these people are on the camino for us to learn a lesson from. Not to be judgemental of other people and decide for them whether they are a 'true pilgrim' (everyone makes his own camino), - not to go along with the negative vibes but be positive instead, (whatever comes on your way...
