Five years ago, I met an amazing woman, from Taiwan, who did it in 18 days. She was an ultra-marathoner.
If you are in good shape, you can do it in 30 days. At 77, I fell in with a fast group, and did it in 29, but regretted leaving so many friends behind…. Pamplona would be a great choice for...
In 2018(?), I had a brief encounter with a fellow that I thought to be a very nice fellow---one who I hoped to know better. Unfortunately, our stops didn't coordinate.
Later, I learned that he was Hammond Peek, a New Zealandor, winner of two Oscars, and nominated for two more. He was a sound...
Contact Susi, from Casa Susi, in Trabadelo. She is an Aussie who opened her own Albergue. I stayed there in June. She has a wonderful story. I recommend her Albergue to everyone I know....
I agree with what you say.
When people ask me about why, I ask them if they return to the same beach, vacation spot, etc. They say it is because they like it. I say that is the very reason that I return to the Camino.
Two years ago, I did my first Camino---thinking that it would be my one-and-only. Alone. I believe you will enjoy your second much more than your first, if you travel alone. Next month, I return for a three peat. I, too, consider FOMO, but I return to something that I know I love. Buen Camino.
What an interesting thread. I have had many wonderful relationships on my two Caminos---some lasted for a very short time, while others continue to this day. I have helped others and been helped by others. I have met some who I didn't want to continue with, and I have been brushed aside by...
If you analyze the statistics, two things stand out---the increase in women and seniors. Why? Because women and seniors tried it and were successful. They went home and told their peers---who tried it and succeeded. So far in 2018, there have more compostelas awarded to the over 60 group...
I just celebrated my 76th birthday doing the entire Camino Frances(did it last year, too). I have never been a backpacker. I do walk and play tennis. I think the key is basic fitness---and then train, train, train. We aren't kids any more, so we need to prepare.
Also, pack light. One...
As they say---it's your Camino! All or part. Compostela or no compostela. Bus or no bus.
The important thing is the entire journey---the decision, the planning and preparation, the training, the walk, and the memories. How ever much you do, you will have the experience of a lifetime---unlike...
This June---and last---I celebrated my 75th and 76th birthdays on the Camino Frances. There were many seniors on the trail---some older than I. If you are healthy---and train---there is no reason to stay home.
My biggest concern was falling, and walking sticks helped me avoid that. Go for it...
Last May-June, the "municipals" were 5-6 Euros, while some of the Church-owned albergues were donativo. Neither accepted reservations. I enjoyed the experience of staying in them. Most of my friendships were with pilgrims staying there. I think that if you stay only in hotels or private...
Jose, I would have thought that it was impossible. However, in June, I met Karen, a delightful 52 year old woman from Hong Kong---who did SJPP to Santiago in 18 days! I met her on the way up to O Cebreiro, when we ducked into a bar to avoid lightning. When I saw her six days later, in...
