2024 Camino Frances to Santiago de Compostela cost

Any of the guides or apps will list donativos as well as other types of accommodation as will the resources on the forum. Note that donativos may not have a set cost but rely on the donations so overall the costs could be similar.

2024 Camino Frances to Santiago de Compostela cost

As a couple we completed the Frances in October 2023. Individually it cost 1,850 Euro for the 38 days i.e. 49 Euro per day each. We stayed mostly in albergues with a few donativos and treated ourselves to a private room in a casa rural, hotel or similar once a week. Food was mostly pilgrim...

Cruz de Ferro landscaping work - Gronze article

A public toilet would be good addition - but do we really want to ruin the ‘atmosphere’? 🤣

LIVE from the Camino O Pedrouzo to Santiago - another wet day

Trained from Santiago to Madrid today and was pleasantly reacquainted with sunshine! Good luck to all still slogging through the wet out there 🌨️

LIVE from the Camino 28 km walk from Palas se Rei in the rain

Personally I was happy to be walking in the rain. It would have been so cramped noisy and steamy on those busses! 🙄 Just felt the sun shinning for 10 minutes now we have arrived in Santiago and had a little time to dry off. In the end I guess it’s only water 😀

    Race today Melide-Santiago

Apparently it was a running race from Sarria to Santiago with a 24hour cutoff to finish. 110kms in under 24hours is one heck of a bed race. We were passed by many of the runners between Sarria and Palas de Reí yesterday. They were very considerate and gave peregrinos space and best wishes.

LIVE from the Camino The September Wave: Increase in Pilgrims and Availability of Beds

Staying off stage seems to be helping but as you approach the larger cities the bottlenecks are reforming. Will be walking 30km tomorrow as there is not a bed to be had in Mansilla de las Mulas as we head for León. There are a few large groups that we are trying to be out of sync with but are...

LIVE from the Camino The September Wave: Increase in Pilgrims and Availability of Beds

I’m currently enjoying a night in San Bol albergue and though we are not booking ahead we are finding that many people are doing just that although some seem a little shy about admitting that. As we walked through Hornillos del Camino around midday the private albergues were completo and the...

LIVE from the Camino The September Wave: Increase in Pilgrims and Availability of Beds

I’m in Pamplona tonight 21 September and there does not seem to be a problem with numbers nor did there appear to have been in Zubiri last night so all may be well for the road ahead.

LIVE from the Camino The September Wave: Increase in Pilgrims and Availability of Beds

Arrived in Roncesvalles yesterday 19 September to find many more pilgrims than expected. The albergue was totally full with peregrinos turned away. Dutch volunteers feel that the early September wave is extending well into the third week. Let’s hope things become less hectic past Pamplona.

    The Two "Chickentown" Paradores

I've stayed in a few Paradores when touring in Spain and each has been a special experience for different reasons. I was sorely tempted to check into the Parador in Santo Domingo de la Calzada while cycling the CF in March 2016. Could have had something to do with the 3 degree C temperature and...

Irache wine fountain - 30,000+ bottles so far this year!

I was happy to fill my cycling bidon with what so so generously provided and ride away. Can't say I recall much more about the wine (or the day... ) 🤣

SJPP to Roncesvalles - your personal experience

I bicycled the Valcarlos route in Mar 2016 from SJpdP to Roncesvalles. The snow started south of Valcarlos and ended up being 1m deep on the trail. Quickly became a case of me carrying the bike rather than the other way around! Opted to complete the balance on-road where the the greatest hazard...

Polling Fellow Walkers - Start in SJPP or Pamplona?

SJpdP - Coming from a relatively flat country how could I miss the the joy of crossing the Pyreneese mountains?

    Lets Build an Albergue!

Something unique to each albergue (e.g crooked stairs that look like they were built after too much vino tinto, fireplace that uses the chimney to draw air in to add to the smoke billowing into the lounge) that makes the place memorable for all the wrong reasons! And love @FooteK idea of...

How many arriving in Santiago each day?

No matter what I try, Chrome, Firefox, IE, I don't seem to be able to download the month to month figures for 2019. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong or if there is another source?

    Walking with friends

How a relationship impacts on your experience of the Camino and how the Camino experience affects your relationship is something that my wife and I have been discussing. I cycled the CF in 2016 alone and found that a large part of the benefit I received was from undertaking the challenge by...

LIVE from the Camino The meseta, it's beautiful!

I'm just back from cycling the Camino in early April and have to agree that the meseta was one of my favourite sections because of the tranquility and the beauty of the plains. Lots of time for contemplation. Missing that already!

    Detour from the Camino frances

I'm biking the Camino Frances and have been making good progress and am currently in Leon with a few days spare in the itinerary. Can anyone suggest worthwhile detours between here and Santiago? A day on the Camino Del Northe?
