Believe me, I know. Noisy until after 1.30, when, fortunately, heavy rain started! It dampened thing's down quite quickly - in both senses! 😂.
Hopefully catch you next time
Because I’m not there, on the ground, I can’t really answer the busy/ booking questions.
I guess the answer depends in part on why you are walking. Religious grounds or the destination? Doesn’t change. A personal challenge ? The Norte is harder, but roughly the same length. Or simply because...
That's easy, just keep a rough mental tally. I've done that ever since I got my first credit card when I joined the bank at 20 years old. It's just a different form of mental discipline, really not hard to do. And because I round everything up I always come in under budget. Let's face it, we...
@Diarmad, you say’we’ so presumably there’s two of you. In which case it’s much easier to meet a €10 minimum purchase should you come across it. Last year on the Primitivo I spent well under €200 in two weeks, including giving others my share of a meal a couple of times ( because the waiter was...
I was thinking more of some of the Koreans ( I’ve tutored a few), and Taiwanese for example. Met a chap last year on the Primitivo with Zero English, let alone Spanish, Czech, Italian or German ( my companions).
So in other words anyone who arrived after that time was turned away. (I appreciate they don't literally do that, they assist them to at least get a taxi elsewhere, but basically, they do not have a bed in Roncesvalles.) Not what a tired, even exhausted, possibly cold and wet pilgrim wants to...
@RobinNL, that's a tough outcome, but bearing in mind your wife was injured as well....
Hope your wife is better soon, and that the insurance process etc goes smoothly. The best of luck with finding the precious plushie cat.
Hopefully this unfortunate experience will not stop either of you...
I am going to be interested to see how the rest of the year pans out. 446,035 pilgrims registered last year, extremely likely it will exceed 450,000 pilgrims this year. Will it top 500,000 or just end up somewhere in between? I suspect the latter, but don’t have anything to support that.
Yes, that is certainly a valid concern - however I think it is unlikely to become reality. Whilst the number of groups has supposedly increased significantly over the years, larger groups have walked the Camino for many years now. There are a significant number of threads on the forum of 'Times...
@dfortuna58 , you have some excellent advice above, the bar suggestion is the most commonly used.
I presume if you don't use it already you will be downloading WhatsApp (it's so frequently used by accommodation let alone fellow pilgrims in Spain).
This has a 'share my location' function which...
@HBS60 , you might find this useful:
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/emergencies/lost-stolen-passport-abroad.html
As regards physical documents (passport and Driver's licence) , airline tickets etc :
You can of course carry copies, personally I simply would...
I initially agreed completely with you. And then I thought about it a little more.
We all talk about the fact that it is not up to us to judge who is a pilgrim and who is not, or how another Pilgrim should walk their Camino. @J Willhaus & @Kathar1na have both provided excellent reasons why...
That is a trap that many fall into - thinking that any given bank will just charge the published exchange rate. Which also varies depending on whether you are talking about the current floating rate or the current fixed rate. There are of course other variables.
Banks can (and do) charge what...
@NancyLee , with two full weeks of walking you could comfortably walk the Primitivo. That way you're not having to break things up with public transport in between, which personally I find really disturbs my rhythm, let alone the sense of well-being that being on Camino gives me. Not as quiet as...
