That's a 24⁰ range. The record is 27⁰ in two minutes due to a Chinook wind, a downhill warming of the wind. 😯

If the ALSA bus ever does stop in Valcarlos (or Arnéguy) I'll be telling pilgrims wanting to go to SJPdP to walk the Route Napoleon to get off the bus there and walk to SJPdP.
Not long ago I checked ALSA service and you could pick up the bus in Spain at a number of points if the ticket was to France. I suppose though that they can't prevent you from getting off the bus at any of the Spanish points if the bus actually stops there to pick up passengers.
If I remember...
It is my understanding that the Navarra government put the restriction on ALSA/CONDA to provide only international travel on their Pamplona - SJPdP line to protect the smaller, local lines. I suspect ALSA would be happy to have the restriction removed.
This thread has more "halfway" information including two alternate halfway points using a start point of SJPdP.

For those reading this thread that are unfamiliar with the two ways down to Roncesvalles, the forest trail that is marked as the camino and the variant way following the road marked as the "soft" or easy way. There are a number of reports on the forum from people who wanted to avoid the forest...
If by Burgos you see that you don't have time to finish the Camino in time there are a number of companies that will rent you a bicycle that you can returrn in León or maybe beyond. This gives you a few more days for walking and you still finish the Camino under your own power.
Please accept my apologies. The tone in my head was light banter and I see that it didn't work. It wasn't the "directly" that made me respond but the combination of "directly down". That was a tough uphill and we ran out of water. I wanted to issue a warning but I didn't do it right.
I have...
Very likely it runs on weekends too. There are a few hotels down in the area where the camino finishes circling the airport and joins the pavement walk. The Hotel Buenos Aires is the first. They have a coffee shop on the street right next to a bus stop to take into Burgos. Google Maps Street...
Probably should revise this one too. Add 3 km to the Uterga to Lorca segment to include a visit to the church of Santa María in Eunate. Many say to make this detour, none say they did and wish they hadn't.

Google Maps shows this as Capela da Ascensión de Perros. This doesn't match the names on the sign though. You can get photos with the following link:

So, maybe all dogs do get to go to heaven. 🤣
OpenStreetMap.org has a walking distance of 1 km (13 minutes) between the Meson and the Igrexa de Santa Baia de Pascais (behind Casa Xaymaca). Is that what you mean by fairly soon?
Photos of that church can be found by clicking Photos on the following webpage...
Here is a Google Maps satellite view of the area I think we are talking about. Caminos are in red. I believe these came from a @David Tallan share. From the Meson you see a red trail headed north through a line of trees to Casa Xaymaca where it turns left. There is a church right behind Casa...
