Truth stated Reb. The politicos push themselves to the front where praise is anticipated. But when responsibility calls - It's the same thing all over.
It was mid-Afternoon in St. Jean Pied de Port I was in a hurry to reach Orrison. I purchased a Baton de Bois. aka a pilgrim stick. I also bought a ½ liter bottle of water. Perhaps I will need this I thought.
Turned out by the time I reached the alberge the water was long gone and my throat so...
The Cathederal of Burgos is truely astonishing, The burial place of El Cid, one of Spains most important figures. There is so much to see that you could easily spend the whole day there.
The Museum of human evolution is unique and facinating.
Enjoy a coffee or a glass wine in one of the many...
Don't overthink the Camino. Whatever you think it will be - it will turn out differently. The advice given by previous posters is good.
Do not fear. Rather thank good fortune for this opportunity.
Now take a deep breath, and plunge yourself into the unique experience of the camino.
Use the forum tips as a packing guide.
Of utmost importance is that you walk at your own pace. Do not attempt to keep up with, or to slow yourself down for anyone.
Listen to your body, if it needs a rest allow one.
You will be just fine.
Buen Camino
An alberge is not a hotel. They have clear rules on opening and closing times. This suits most and allows everyone, (problems with snorers aside) a nights rest. I cannot think why anyone would expect to be allowed in after hours.
Wow. Debrita, Coleen, and SEB at one table . What an evening of conversation, laughter (and wine! ) that will be. I want to be there!
First couple of bottles of vino Tinto are on me!
No I did not.
I did however feel humbled and graced with good fortune to be on the Camino and in the moment.
As I walked I reflected on the twists and turns, the up's and downs, The incredible luck, and also the crushing heartbreaks that it has taken to get me to be exactly here at this...
The Camino is not a wilderness trek. If you have the opportunity to shower and to wear clean clothes for the next day then of course you take it. Be crazy not to.
The Camino is a cash economy. The majority of places you will pass through (apart from the larger citys of course) are cash only. It all depends on your needs, I found that I could easily get by on €25-30 per day. Some people require more, Some less. As a rule of thumb it's advisable that you...
I find Naismith's rule helps as a general guide to calculate the next days goal. 'On relatively flat terrain, hiker being of reasonable fitness, and under normal conditions. Allow 1 hour for every 3 mi (5 km) forward, plus 1 hour for every 2000 ft (600 m) of ascent. This of course does not...
I would strongly advise against trying to 'Trick the system'. It's not worth the risk of being caught. Better to do one Camino in the knowledge that all is above board. Then come back for another when the time is right.
