Most Dangerous stage on Camino Frances.?

I absolutely agree, all the more reasons to have walking poles. A Camino hack: When flying Ryanair from Dublin to Biarritz ( I assume this applies to most airlines) I never like the idea of putting my backpack and walking poles in the hold--"never let your backpack out of sight". Most airlines...

    Atypical/memorable albergues on Camino Francés?

I agree with all the above but would also include: Oasis Trails and the donativo at Tosantos. The Verde albergue, amazing home grown food — the best dinner on my Camino

    Orisson Albergue

Hi fellow pilgrims, I booked a few weeks ago and go a reply within three days with an invoice for a 50% payment. My understanding is that they are actually closed at the moment and will open at the end of March. This may explain the erratic communications from them. By the way there is a new...

    Orisson Albergue

Don’t worry, they will eventually get back to you. I have stayed there twice and booked again for 13 June, it’s a lovely experience and I am confident they will confirm shortly.

Red Hearts in Brierley's Guide Book

I have noticed that a small red heart appears on some maps in Brierley's Camino Francés guidebook. For example map 22 just below Cruceiro. Does anyone know if this symbolises a location he likes or that a defibrillator available at that spot?

Are you thinking to walk the Camino (the way of the Saint James) again?

Absolutely, but my second time was even better than my first and my 3rd was just amazing. But I am slightly worried about trying to relive it on my 4th in June. Buen Camino

Are you thinking to walk the Camino (the way of the Saint James) again?

Like all the others the Camino is with me every day. I go to sleep most night reliving my time on the Camino. I am heading back for the 4th time in June and have a count-down calendar on my office wall. It is not that I am wishing my life away it is more that it motivates me to keep training. I...

    Short first Day? CF

Hi Sue, one thing to keep in mind on your first day it that it puts real pressure on the calfs of your legs. I did a simple exercise for about 4 weeks, prior to beginning my Camino, to stretch my muscles. Stand on a step or stair on your toes. Gently drop your heal down as far as you can go...

Completing the French Way in 28 days

I followed Derek too. Being from Ireland I was particularly interested in his experience. I heard him on a radio interview recently (https://www.rte.ie/radio1/ryan-tubridy/programmes/2019/1212/1098669-the-ryan-tubridy-show-thursday-12-december-2019/). Keep in mind that he is [almost] a...

Completing the French Way in 28 days

The Camino is not a race (against others or yourself ). I am planning my 4th Camino in June. I have being doing it in stages. First I cycled it from Leon, then for the past two years walking from SJPP. This year I plan to walk it from Leon to SdC. But I can truly say it is not about getting...

Who else is walking late June through July?

My advice is simple. If you are using the John Brierley book try to stay away from the towns on the top and bottom of each page. They tend to be very busy. Aim for the middle of each page. Less facilities but often more 'Camino'. It might be a bit late now but, try booking Orrision for your...

    Pre-Camino Jitters...

Hi PastorCat, I have just finished 8 days on the Camino(last year I cycled it). It was one of the best experiences of my longish life (63). So what made is so great? Firstly; the people I met. You have no idea what awaits you, but be assured if you are open to amazing conversations, to giving...

Biking parts of the camino Frances

Hi Justin, I cycled from Leon to SdC last year on rented bike. I flew Dublin to Madrid and then a bus to Leon. There are lots of companies who provide this service. All the kit was provided including helmet, panniers and tools. Many companies have designated hotel drop-off points along the way...

    How's the Pyrenees?

I have the same issue but hopefully I have planned my first two days well. I arrive in Biarritz mid-day on the 21st June and have booked a taxi/minibus to take me to SJDPD. If I can get people to share it will cost about €10. Once in SJPDP, I will pick up a set of walking sticks, get some food...

St Jean to Roncesvalles in a day, or stop at Orisson?

Dear KerryW, I have the same dilemma. I am flying to Biarritz from Dublin and getting a taxi/minibus to SJDP with Express Bourricot. I should arrive mid afternoon. I will then walk to Orisson (about 3 hours). This will save time on Day 2 and give me a head start and a less than gentle...

    Is this sensible?

HI Barbara, Don't over-do the packing as I did last year. It is very difficult to imagine and to plan what will or will not work on the Camino. At this time of year you could experience four seasons in one day. Be assured that you are never too far away from a shop which will stock all your...

    Accommodation in Leon

I started my Camino from there. The are sooo many hotel and hostels finding one is no problem. The city is small so location is not an issue. I went by price and pick-up point for my rented bike. Enjoy your last night of comfort. Don’t eat on the main drag as it is generally disappointing.
