In my experience the private albergues in Galicia were much superior to the ones run by the Xunta, especially when it came to cleanliness and security.
Strange that governments when inapt at running facilities only find regulations and more regulations to defeat the competition. Why not make an...
Leon and its beautiful cathedral.
It is a nice town but leaving hotel de Paris early in the morning, pitch dark and getting out through the waking suburbs was not so pleasant, However when the sun started shining we were already in the fields, a more serene environment.
I envy you a bit and...
Thanks Javier for these nice photos.
Can you tell me if the old church in Foncebadon is still standing (the one where the refuge is). When I was there in October 2006 it seemed that the main wall was about to crash.
At that time of year it is a pleasure to walk and once tired or if you enter a nice and pleasing village to you, stop and spend the night there. Albergues are visible, well marked and you decide where you want to stop.
Let your heart guide you and do not be afraid to find accomodation; there...
Good luck Minkey. I hope the weather gets better real soon for you and all others on the Camino.
The climb and the descent at Alto del Perdon must have been a nightmare. Keep the spirit up ...and your feet warm.
I love Pamplona too.
I discovered the city in 2005 as I had to stop one day to take care of a small medical issue.
I walked through the old city and part of the new and found it most interesting.

I had my Rogers GSM phone (Motorola) that I use around the world. In a month it cost me $6.95 to connect to Spain networks, about $2.00 for a 5-6 minutes talk daily and $0 for dozens of SMS that I sent and received with another person that I knew and who was on the camino with me a day...
Keep up the good work Javier and if we can help do not hesitate to ask our support; I will assist as much as required.
Keep us up to date on the situation in O Pino.
If I can give you my personal impression the best part of the CF is from StJPdeP to Logrono, some stages from Burgos to Leon and Galicia.
Sure you can run from Burgos to Leon; there are some hilly parts but it is mostly desert with huge wheat fields.
I prefer vineyards in Navarra and Rioja and...
I remember walking from Burgos with jetlag and 41°C temperatures with Liv. I "crashed" on the cross on top of the "mulekiller" hill. Hontanas, although you can see it is still quite a way. It is one of my most memorable stage. I got there in time to get a space in the gym because the refuge was...
You are right Bob, you must use a URL to get the image embedded in your text. Failing this, if you have a good image to share, send it to the photo album and tell us you did so, we'll run to have a look at it.

Best bet is to send an email and phone to ensure it is reserved. In late September all I had to do was to phone the night before I left. Now that it is well known more and more people stop there on their way to Roncesvalles...
My best food discoveries were : Morcillas in Burgos, pulpo a la feira in Lavacolla and red wines of the Rioja and some in Navarra.
One can hardly call the CF a gourmet experience !
Food is reduced to its most basic level: fuel as Minkey puts it. I never thought I would...
Scary, but I guess we are going to have to live with this type of menace from now on.
I was in London the week before the bus and metro station were bombed in 2005; I used to take the tube from that station everyday. I still get goose bumps when I think about it.
One should keep on living...
I think Trudy is quite right; make the most of your stay.
Burgos and Leon are sure worth a few days of sightseeing. You can play tourist to your heart content. A couple a days in Santiago is a must and if you can spend a day or two enjoying Fisterra this would have been a good stay in...
