yes, I was aware of the September popularity after reading about it here and on the Facebook forums. I got a little nervous about it as a first-timer so I booked through Pamplona. I’m really glad I did!
I’m on the Camino now. While I have a long way to go, it didn’t take me long to realize I hated wearing that black pouch around my neck. I have a waist pack that stays with me all the time. Inside I have a ziplock bag with my passport and credential.
We’re in Pamplona. We’ve had reservations until now. People were turned away from Orisson and Roncesvalles, with very little to no availability in Zubiri. If there are that many Pilgrims in SJPDP they’ll have a really hard time going forward without reservations.
Oh my gosh, another type of macaron? I guess I'll have to try them all. A few years ago I was in Lyon at an amazing market and the macarons were indeed those pastel concoctions. It was like that throughout the Loire valley. I wonder if it's a regional thing? Like, my macron is not your macaron?
A macaron is not a macaroon, although the words are sometimes used interchangeably. A macaron is a delightful french concoction that will practically melt in your mouth! Two air-light cookies with a light creamy center. Think Oreo times 1M.
What a great idea! I'd be in on it but I imagine there's a lot of red tape to go through, either renting or purchasing the properties. Prefab's would be perfect and IKEA-type decor.
I know! I've been reading suggestions, recommendations, and comments for months now. Every time I think I have things finalized I add or subtract something else. I know we're supposed to leave our fears behind us and that there's nothing you can't buy along the Camino and I'm trying really hard...
That was before July 1. I don't know if you can leave the Apple store with a phone that doesn't have a SIM card in it either. When I bought my phone they asked me who my carrier was, and they installed the SIM card while I was in the store.
Yes, it's drastic! Ivan_Prada is right, it's only for 60 days but I bought my phone last week specifically for the camera, and specifically for the Camino -- I start in 3 weeks. So I'm totally out of luck because I can't unlock the phone to put in a new Vodaphone or Orange SIM card...
Beginning July 1, if you purchased your phone with Verizon it's locked for 60 days from your purchase. That means I can't take my brand spanking new iPhone with the fancy camera on the Camino! I'm bummed and will have to buy a new, cheaper phone in Europe.
Nice post! I'm a 63 year-old woman and this will be my first Camino. I'm taking 2 sets of clothing but 5 pairs of socks (3 long, 2 short) and 2 pairs of Injinji liners. I'm using water bottles with a CamelBak hose instead of a bladder because the water gets too warm in the bladder (I sweat a...
That's exactly what I'm doing. After an overnight flight from the US to Paris I'm taking the train to Bayonne and spending the night. Then to SJPDP the next morning, a leisurely day and night in SJPDP, then onto the Camino the following morning. Staying in Orisson that night. It all sounds easy...
Hi Barry, I'm walking in September. I too have wondered about warm clothes, boots, sandals, etc. because it will get cooler as it gets into October. I'm wearing my boots for a variety of reasons that have nothing to do with temperature and I'm also taking my sandals. Otherwise, I figure if I...
