Where is "home"? How and by what route are you travelling home?
I took mine on the plane (back to Melbourne, Australia) without any issue. It was well wrapped up. I flew from Madrid to Rome then after a week onto Melbourne.
And this is exactly what's wrong with these conversations. The only authority on Catholic Church matters is (God speaking through) the Magisterium of Catholic Church. Individual opinions have no baring on things so please, leave them out of it.

There's a good few threads on here about walking in winter which will be of help to you. Take a look and shoot us your questions that are still left. Good luck working the transportation out, there are also threads on that too :)
I too like to plan, I get anxious when I am just walking blindly. When I walked this year in February on my own I would plan the following two day's walk - one day ahead in winter isn't enough becuase you could end up with a 50km walk by accident on the second day becuase of the scarcity of...
Never trust a list! Things change. The best way to know whether an albergue will be open is to ask the hostelliers at the previous night's location. Locals will have a better idea of who is open and can also ring ahead for you to check.

When I was at the Spanish Confraternity's albergue in Santo Domingo dela Calzada this February they printed off their sheet of statistics for 2013 and gave it to me. I hope that the photo will be readable (the printing is small so I left it as a large photo).
What I found most amazing is that...
Warmer than I had expected, which wasn't necessarily a good thing, just meant I carried more than I anticipated because I thought I'd be wearing it. From memory 0-5C on average with some days up to 10/12 and others down to -3... Certainly dryer and sunnier than I expected, which was wonderful...

I used it as a headband mostly (admittedly when I read someone taking a headband I thought how ridiculous, just wear a beanie, nooooo, these cover your ears and forehead...
