Recommendations for “can’t miss” eating establishments?

As you go thru the various towns, there will be signs up in Restaurants with Menu del Dia. These are the places we mostly eat in, not five star but mostly very tasty & reasonably priced. Plus we usually met up with other pilgrims that we would have had chat/few words along the way and always a...

LIVE from the Camino SJPDP 1st stage

Fair play to you to make it in one day, a great achievement, photos magnificent. The toughest day is now behind you! Lots of stretching/gentle exercises after each days walk will be great help. Would also recommend early morning starts to avoid the heat of the day.

We also arrived in Bilbao from Dublin but a later flight. We got ALSA bus to Estella via Logrono. We stayed in Hostal Volante, Estella which is convenient for starting your walk!

    I may be crazy....

I agree with Nidarosa....we arrived Madrid Barajas airport, got free shuttle to T4 and ALSA counter where we got our tickets for bus to Astorga. Another time (to save time at counter) we booked tickets online. We used the services of Jacotrans to transport our luggage from Hostal/Hotel to...

Accomodation St Jean Pied de Port

Hi Meindl, We arrived early afternoon in Saint Jean, soaked up the atmosphere for few hours, had pre-booked Htl Ramuntcho (en-suite), up early next morning and walked all the way to Roncesvalles - think its a waste of a day (and money!) to stay 2nd night in Saint Jean as is a night in Orisson...

    Communal dinner in Sarria?

We also stayed in La Casona Sarria last Sept. Marcella, the hostess is indeed a lovely warm welcoming lady. It was a hot afternoon when we arrived and immediately she brought us out to her garden for cold drinks. The communal breakfast next morning was brilliant and one of the pilgrims...

    Importance of First Night's Stay

We also stayed in Hotel Ramuntcho but only for 1 night, which was the night before our walk. There's a great buzz in St Jean so I would suggest staying there for a 2nd night but then walking all the way to Roncevalles rather than overnight in Orrison.

Which part to walk in two weeks?

I also agree with everything Scruffy said and as Bala said ‘There was something deeply satisfying about walking into Santiago, knowing how long ago I'd started and how many miles I'd traveled to get there’. Took me 4 years to reach Santiago! Hoping to do the Porto walk in September.

    A very beginner's question

Hi Carol I would go with Anemone suggestion - Saint Jean Pied de Port and walk to Burgos. It took us 12 days. However if you only have 7 days, I would still start in Saint Jean, you just can’t miss crossing the Pyrenees. We went from St Jean to Roncevalles the first day, however a lot of people...

    Try to skip Frómista.

kayagee66........what's the name of the hotel in Poblacin de Campos or is it the only one there. I'll be passing that way in September and it sounds like the place to stop!

    Estella Albergue?

Like you we spent night in Estella, picking up where we ended last time and we stayed in Hostal El Volante. Very convenient and on route for your start next morning. Cost €59 for 2 which included breakfast...booked through booking.com

Which part/s would you skip if you only had 26 days and would walk the average amt per day

Laurence Start in St Jean and work your way along. As someone said each part of the journey is unique. The Meseta sounds like the part to skip, cant say as I will be starting from Burgos this September and will take in the Meseta but I would not miss any part of it even if you have to come back...
