    Showers Stalls

OOh! I forgot my most embarassing Camino shower experience! Once on the Portugese route I stayed in an albergue where they were hosting a children's birthday party. I found his out when the party started just as I took my shower and a group of children (of both genders) and their mums all ran...

    Showers Stalls

If you are fussy about communal showers then I would avoid the municipal albergues. Certainly in Galicia, I had several communal showers in Galicia as recently as last October. Generally they were communal but single-sex - however in at least one of the albergues there was only one frosted...

    Larrasoaña

From what I understand from talking to other pilgrims Larrasoaña seems to be a hot spot for overcrowding. Maybe it is wise not to plan to stop there. However my understanding is that the municipal albergue in Zubiri is not particularly nice either. I stayed in a private albergue in Zubiri which...

What is the one albergue you would avoid?

I think so much of your albergue experience depends of how you feel on the day day and who you are there with. You can have a great night in a horrible albergue or a miserable evening in the most beautiful place dependent on mood and circumstance... That said, I´m confused by the post above...

Walking the Camino Frances a second time yes\no

I find the Frances different everytime! Try a different season for a variation on the landscape. People are all different. I wouldn´t do the Portugues alone again personally. I found the Portugal part, whilst beautiful, a little scary (in terms of men) and during the whole route although there...

    Burgos Credential - Early Morning!

2 weeks? That must´ve been quite some weather! Um, I find the opposite, once I´m within reach of the camino I´m itching to get going! The day I spent in Santiago was torture watching all the other pilgrims coming in jealously!! As an update, I got a credential in the pilgrim´s office in...

On the walk at lograño and shocked at the no. of people!

Wow! It really is busy!!! Started from Burgos a couple of days ago, totally shocked at the number of people, compared to this time of year a few years ago the number has escalated massively!! Glad I brought the tent.... not that I´ve used it yet, meseta seems scant in good wild camping spots...

    Burgos Credential - Early Morning!

Cheers All! Excited and nervous now! Am not much of a breakfast person to be honest, prefer to walk up an appetite. I have found my old credential though so if if all fails I can use that. Will let you know what happens :)

On the walk at lograño and shocked at the no. of people!

Absolutely, try stopping in villages just before the main pilgrim stops or just before the major towns. If the main stops are full people tend to walk on ahead so the villages a bit further along the trail fill up too. No one ever thinks to walk back, so stopping just before the major stops is a...

    Burgos Credential - Early Morning!

Hello Fellow Pilgrims! Despite all my best intentions of quitting and managing an incredible three years without a camino! I appear to be in possession of a one way ticket to Spain leaving Wednesday. How this happened I have no clue... Am taking the overnight coach from Santiago to Burgos...

    Showers...

Haha! This post made me laugh (in a nice way!) The thought of a nice leisurely line of pilgrims waiting for a refreshing shower in the morning! Much better than the bag-rustling-head-torch-blinding-rush-away-from-the-snorers chaos that usually ensues!! :D Seriously, I'm more of the sleep in...

What is the one Albergue that you would say not to miss

I was also going to say Azofra! I'd trade all the character in the world for a night in one of their private two bed rooms. Special note: If you're travelling alone and they're not full you may even get a room to yourself...oh the luxury!!! :D Also, not sure if it's been mentioned but...

    sleeping outside

Yes, totally possible, see other discussions on camping on this forum. You haven't said what time of the year you are going though, there are certain seasons/locations(mountains)/weather conditions where it is not to be recommended! Maybe budget for the occasional night in?

    monte de Gozo

Um, because it's a really cheap way to stay in Santiago basically. (Only reason I can think of) I was told by the hospitalero at Seminario Menor that you are allowed to stay there as long as you want. Not sure if anyone's tested that theory to the max?

    Any last tips?

The above comment is so perfect I didn't want to add to it except that falling asleep last night I was thinking that noone had said EARPLUGS! One of those essential things I am always forgetting and then running to the pharmacy to get after just one night listening to 20 people snoring. Don't...

    Any last tips?

Ah Cola Cao! The best thing about bars in Spain!!!! My tip: Take everything out of your backpack just before you leave and get rid of about 10-20% of it! All the little things you were taking 'just in case' you won't need, and if you do you'll find them in Spain anyway. Best to pack too little...

    Question About an Unconventional Camino

I posted a question about this in 2009 and received just such a mixed response. Due to various reasons I took a break of about 4 or 5 days off within the last 100km of the camino portugues. I took someone (who could no longer walk for health reasons) by train & bus to Santiago and Finisterre...

    about Pamplona

Stayed here last time I arrived in Pamplona late at night (think it was recommended to me by someone on this forum!) Hostel Hemmingway http://www.hostelhemingway.com/pagina/inicio_en.html Was perfectly ok, seems expensive compared to albergues but much cheaper than a hotel. I can't remember...

An unholy year on the Camino Frances

OK, I'm going to be a bit controversial here but there are so many different people on the camino that all kinds of opinions exist. Firstly I'm with you on the litter I have no idea why people drop litter, some people are idiots but they do it everywhere not just on the camino. I would be happy...
