Dear Lovely Margaret, I had the great pleasure of meeting you last year, in Santo Domingo. You were such fun, and we had breakfast and chatted! So sorry to hear your news, rest well and recover, love, Helen
Zaragoza is another option. Flights with Ryanair from London Stansted are cheap. Last November, I went alone to Zaragoza, and got a train to Logrono, 2 hours. Last month, we flew to Zaragoza, and got a train to Pamplona, then walked to Fromista. You can train from Burgos back to Zaragoza. There...
What about composting toilets? It would be great to see these, but I'm sure there's a reason why there aren't any, that's been mentioned on here before.
How lovely! Highly recommend you look at Margaret Meredith- mspath on the forum. She's is currently on her 10th winter camino, and is writing a blog, and has written about everything you need to know. And is a delightful lady!
Buen Camino !
LOVE the look of the Montbell! It's a bit expensive though. John uses a Poncho Liner, and it's what I took with me for November. It's light 800 gms , squashes down small, can be used as a blanket, or with the ties as a roomy bag with an open bottom. These cost around £20 to £30, and are...
Just recently, I flew form Stansted to Zaragoza with Ryanair for £37 . Zaragoza is a lovely city, closer than Madrid and you can get to Pamplona by bus or train.
Just a thought....!
I wrote out a list of all the albergues that were supposed to be open, according to the Eroski site. But it wasn't accurate. Some that were supposed to open " todo el ano " were closed. And vice versa. Some information given by hospitaleros about places open in the next stopping point weren't...
Am home now .... So I can say beyond a doubt , that a sleeping bag is a good idea, and thanks again to all of you for persuading me to take one. The temperature dropped 10 degrees very suddenly, the albergues were mostly freezing! Even with a wood burning stove and gas heater in La Hutte in...
@falcon269 I understand your point. Thing is, I know how I am when it's warmer, and I'm fine with the liner and blankets. Did you find that all the albergues are heated? Because if they are, then I'd only take the liner. My concern would be staying in a freezing cold albergue . I won't make it...
A question for the winter walkers..
I'm taking the plunge, and am planning to walk from Logrono for just under 3 weeks, starting 30th October.
I've only ever taken a silk liner on previous caminos, and relied on the blankets in the albergues. Is this a crazy thing to do in November?
I've found...
Hi, from one mosquito magnet to another!
In Sept/Oct I got bitten on and off all along the way. I mixed citronella oil into a body moisturiser and used it every day,but it didn't help :( Tea tree oil dabbed onto my clothes seemed to help a bit. I got some good anti itch cream from the...
We also walked sept/ oct 2012 . It was very hot to start off with. I had 2 t shirts and a light fleece jacket .Don't forget, you can buy stuff as you go along. I bought an Altus in Leon, didn't need it before then ,also an extra fleece. Got gloves and a beanie in Fromista, and hiking sandals...
This is not about an embarrassing moment. Although there were a few. I just found this photo, and I do believe Gerard, that it is you, as you have said elsewhere, lying on your bunk , reading your Kindle!and note the forum badge! In Ventosa.
Agree with Grayland .It was my intention to never, ever stay in an albergue. I was petrified at the thought of sharing a sleeping space with all those strangers. Terrified of disturbing people by needing the loo in the night. When we got to Zubiri , it was an albergue, or nothing. That first...
I hope that in asking this question you don't think that you missed out on anything! There are negatives and positives to the albergue experience. You missed out on sleepless nights with the snorers, early mornings with the flashlights and bag rustlers! It sounds like you had a great camino...
