@camster - no, the El Paso doesn't have a communal dinner, though they do have a kitchen you can use, and there is at least one place to eat very close to the albergue. The Rock'n Roll Pizza restaurant before you get to Vega also has beds and a communal (pizza and salad) meal in the evening, so...
Hi, I have stayed in the albergue El Paso several times, and as far as I know they are still open. Lovely hospitaleros, large garden, honesty bar and comfortable beds, I'd recommend it. And make sure you stop at the Rock'n Roll pizza before Vega, or see if they take extras for their communal...
This is true, but some weren't on that occasion and some probably won't be again this year, so it might be good to give them a reminder that you should always carry some form of snack. It's so easy to get used to relying on the usually plentiful options on the Camino Francés especially. A visit...
OK, so that's a good rule of thumb anyway then - beware the Monday closures. Or simply make sure you have a substantial Monday lunch and prepare to make do for dinner. The CF is so well served with so many options for accommodation and food that Viana struck me as unusual in that all the...
Just randomly remembered when I came to Viana last - I prefer to stay there and have a short walk into glorious Logroño to really make the most of the tapas district - there were many, many disappointed and hungry pilgrims drifting around the streets looking for an open restaurant. There were...
Is it still true that some accommodation doesn't open up again until at or after Easter? It might still get easier. Might also help to contact places directly as they might have more beds and rooms than they advertise on booking.com. And the majority of municipals don't allow pre-booking so you...
All open and available accommodation will be listed on the gronze.com website, with contact info etc. Some places might not have opened yet for the new year, normally they open for Semana Santa/Easter. More here: https://www.gronze.com/etapa/villafranca-bierzo/cebreiro
I love my guidebook - the Village to Village maps-only version, thin and lightweight and with actual maps showing some detail and not just a simplified rough sketch. I make notes in it for next time, I can easily pull it out of my skirt pocket to check on the distance to the next place without...
Is this the same case? https://www.noticiasdenavarra.com/sucesos/2022/10/16/detenido-peregrino-estella-presunto-autor-6122683.html?fbclid=IwAR1DXiaJ4rdNW_98UMzUGBVRwCPhHDvH2nHx9xTQEDv_eDHAXNxtvUwq_WI
Ah, that sounds a lot more deliberate. Again I am sorry, and I can only hope it shows up or that whoever took it, for whatever reason, will make an effort to return it to you. It must have a tag with your information on so fingers crossed.
Top tip to anyone reading this, please put your name...
I am so sorry to hear about this. Have you contacted other transport companies to see if they have picked it up by mistake? Or if the right courier has dropped it off at the wrong place? I hope it is just a mix-up and that it didn't go missing on purpose.
Just filled it in, I take it you mean potable - drinkable - cool water, not portable? Ie opportunity to fill your water bottle before you leave in the morning?
Hi, and welcome! I personally wouldn't, it is a very steep and long stage. I'd stay in St Jean and enjoy the buzz, and get going the next day. Or try to book a bed in Orisson or Borda, both are roughly 7-8 kms from St Jean. Also depends on what the Pilgrim office recommends, weather wise. When...
Another vote for Acebo, if only to enjoy the view for two days instead of one! Better to tackle the rocky trail down to Molinaseca with fresh and rested legs the next day - after it is light.
Not as far as I know! I had a chat with her in September and though they were closed during lockdown, they are open now. I recently saw a FB post about them accepting prebooked groups this winter. There is a gofundme page for donations to get the roof fixed as well so things are looking up.
Anywhere will stamp your credencial - churches, bars, restaurants, albergues, hotels ... some places they leave the stamps out for you to sort it yourself. There is one albergue and at least one casa rural in Ventosa, if I remember correctly, and at least two places to eat so you should be fine...
Hi, lucky you on the camino! I just came home a month ago and would go back in a heartbeat. Sorry to hear you have blisters and my first reaction is, why would you want to do a very long day if you already have them? I am a fan of staying in San Saturnino Ventosa myself, it is a reasonable...
