Over Christmas/New year on Camino Frances

Its done!! Flight booked to Madrid on Dec 29!! Anyone doing or recently returned from a winter camino? Quite concerned with getting my packing right, neither too little stuff nor too much, or else the wrong sort of stuff completely! What's the weather like on the Meseta this year? (I start from...

Hi, For those planning to start before or after Christmas, its getting close now! I've finally decided to go for it-doing my holiday request tomorrow. Aim to start in Burgos Dec 30, so would be delighted to hear from anyone else on the road around that time. Buen camino

Over Christmas/New year on Camino Frances

Should I understand that to mean that albergues and indoor spaces in general will be chilly because they're not really built with Winter in mind? If so its an important point but I guess it can be counteracted by a decent sleeping bag etc... Also there's cold and then there's humid cold which...

Over Christmas/New year on Camino Frances

I originally wanted to restart my camino where I finished last time, Burgos. However, I'm concerned that the weather on the meseta might be particularly unkind, am I likely to spend all my time walking in freezing fog etc...?. Trying to make the right route choice here so greatly appreciate all...

Over Christmas/New year on Camino Frances

Hi Janet Great plan-Enjoy the buildup and anticipation!! I haven't committed to doing this yet but I do hope I can make it happen. Christmas is a tricky time of year with family demands but I hope they will release me guilt-free to freedom 27/28 Dec... :-)

wonderful meals along the Camino Frances

Oh.. Might that have been the place just opposite the church/cathedral? It was the culinary highlight of my camino where they served frozen fish as they main course....that would have been ok (what do you expect for 10 euro) had it actually been deep-fried long enough to defrost it!! Best...

Armed & Dangerous at the Albergue

Chair... Very good idea if they're about but I don't recall seeing many. I'm cast back to the 90 bed dorm in Najera (maybe). Not one chair to be had

Armed & Dangerous at the Albergue

Someone had mentioned this as one of the advantages of opting for the top bunk... I would have thought not too but just wondering what others thought. The farthest I would go is to hang clothes ("clean" only ;)) off the rail at the end of the top bunk...meaning the person below really doesn't...

Armed & Dangerous at the Albergue

So here's a question. Who has rights on the hanging space from under the top mattress, I kind of thought it would have been the bottom bunk since it forms a sort of curtain which they may or may not want...but then again, its hanging off the top side...... ;)

Camino Frances November and early December 2013 :)

Hi, Just as encouragement I think you will be fine. I never walked with a pack before I went away so I did as suggested, i.e. started easy and took care of myself - my weaknesses toughened up en route. Also I'm so glad that I listened to the wisdom of many posters and kept my pack weight pretty...

Over Christmas/New year on Camino Frances

Thanks very much to all for your replies and links to other posts and blogs. I couldn't (so far) find any info on travelling late Dec into Jan. Do albergues close for a few days at any stage during Christmas holidays? Will I even find any other polgrims? I would not like to think I will be on...

Over Christmas/New year on Camino Frances

I'm not long back from my first assault on the Camino Frances which took me from SJPdP as far as Burgos. It was such a great experience, much more than I dared expect and obviously I have to finish it! Now I'm toying with the idea to walk just after Christmas and into the New Year starting in...

Still finding full albergues in mid-September

Burgette is reasonably sized and only 2km down the road.. Also, the lady in the bar/cafe in Roncesvalles ferried some people on to Espinal a few days back..... I think you will find options

    I took too many photos

Hi Tom, Just wondering what do you mean by 'fully experience it'? Do you mean you were over anxious about the practicalities of the trek and so did not manage to fully let go while walking-maybe all will become clear after I walk it but if there is something I can do to have a more positive...
