Good day to start from SJPdP?

We always avoid the 1st of every month especially Sept 1 as it seems everyone likes to start then.

    CF in 26 days?

This schedule is doable but very optimistic considering your own words "not a trained person". A more realistic schedule would or should include a few rest days, I would suggest at least one in Burgos and Leon. Although you may be able to walk 30 Kms in a day doing it for 26 days in a row is...

St Jean to Roncesvalles in a day, or stop at Orisson?

My wife and I were in our 60's but in good shape when we walked from SJPD to Roncesvalles. We left SJPD and reached Orisson by 11 am and had no problem reaching Roncesvalles by 3 pm. A lot of the decision should be 1) are you in fairly good shape and 2) what time are you leaving. The only...

    I think that I'm ready...

It's only one step at a time, I believe about a million to reach Santiago. You will be there before you know it and will be like the rest of us longing to do it again. Buen Camino.

SJPDP to Roncesvalles in a Day....hmm

Agree with all the above comments, if the weather is good it is very doable. My wife and I are in our 60's and found it to be one of the most memorable days on our Camino. We started at 7:30 and were in Orisson for a great bfk by 10 am and into Roncesvalles by 3pm. The only difficult part is the...

    Nice hotel in Pamplona

Hotel Europa right of the square in the old town. Has the best tapas place on the whole camino el Gaucho right next door. 75-85 euros. It looks like it is now called Hotel Sercotel Europa, It has a 1 star Michelin restaurant( special priced pilgrims meal) and has deals for 50 Euros.

How many days for Ponferrada to Santiago?

Rebecca from Ponferrada you are looking at about 200km, so 10 days of walking would be a good estimate. If starting in O'Cebreiro you save 2 days and a long climb which is near the top of the mountains. Madrid would be my choice of airports to fly into plenty of choices of trains and bus schedules.

    Pack weight

You probably need the rain trousers my wife has been there for the last 2 weeks and has had cold, sleet, snow and rain most days. A couple of times she has been wearing both rain jacket and poncho for warmth. Even though she has gloves she also has been putting the extra set of socks on her...

Alternative to high bridge to enter Portomarin?

It really isn't as bad as it looks !! My wife doesn't like to go down escalators and her first comment in seeing the bridge was "oh no". As noted by others the stairs are brutal after the bridge especially on a long day.

to send a package from SJPP and bring it in Santiago de Comp

The reason we chose Ivar was our concern about shipping from a different country. It worked well for us but we haven't tried it from France. It looks like mspath has a good solution for you. Buen Camino

to send a package from SJPP and bring it in Santiago de Comp

Not to give Ivar a commercial here, but we shipped a suitcase to him from Lisbon and another package along the way on the Camino Portugues. I ended up having a severe back problem only 100 miles into our trip and forcing us to fly back to the states for surgery. We were to say the least a little...

Anyone doing the Camino in April 2016

My wife and I are in our sixties and was able to do it in 12 days with no problem , with your stop in Orisson it would take 13 days on average. We arrived in Orrison at 11am and had no problem reaching Roncevaux in under 8 hours. If the weather is good like we had in September it was one of the...

We walked part of the Camino Portuguese in September starting in Lisboa and unexpectedly ended in Coimbra due to a back problem that require a return to the states. But never had mosquito problems !!
