Too late to start preparing & weather in May?

I read an adage on the forum before my fist Camino in 2015 that I wish I had listen to more - start as old woman, finish as a young one. Go extra slow in the beginning (meaning shorter distances) and as your body conditions, you will naturally pick up the pace after the first 5-6 days. Days...

Camino Frances in March 2022.. Advice ??

Hi friend!! I am from Texas and speak enough bad Spanish to get by on the phone. 😂 WhatsApp is a good suggestion that never occurred to me. I found that hospitalarios and albergues owners are usually willing to call for you as well.

Camino Frances in March 2022.. Advice ??

Hi, Veteran here and planning to start late March from Roncesvalles. In general, even in the high season of May/June, I did not pre-plan my stages or book ahead other than SJPP and Orrison. On the CF and Primitovo, I would call a private albergue the evening before once we we considered the next...

Rocking quietly in the corner.... (UPDATE post 51)

One step at a time @Gumba - literally and figuratively. Take each day as sit comes as opposed to weighing the whole path at once. As suggested before, some deep breaths and east into it. You got this. Buen camino.

Conflicted about going, plane leaves Friday?

Great "rule" - don't pack your fears, leave those at home, and take each day as it comes. Each kilometer even. You will have more flexibility and choices than you realize. Take a few deep breaths and exhale all the worry and fears. I found the community and landscapes to be very fulfilling. They...

    Seeking Last Minute Advice!

I would also add to the excellent advice above don't pack your expectations - leave those at home. Take each day as it comes and let the Camino unfold for you as it does. Once you finish walking for the day you can plan the next. Rumi was right - each day, experience, person you meet is a gift...

Starting at French border instead of SJPP?

I will say, starting at SJPP was difficult. For a while after and during the remainder of my Camino, I thought it was an unnecessary difficulty. Richard you sound like more of a hiker than I was, and will have an easier time. I do believe that wherever one chooses to start his or her Camino...

Starting at French border instead of SJPP?

Perhaps I am not remembering correctly, but I think most of the spectacular views occurred before the border pass on the Napoleon route. Also, my Camino family was formed from my first night is SJPP and then our 2nd night at Orrison. It was most certainly worth the extra trouble getting to the...

    Memorial Shells for Denise....

Well done @grayland and the Pilgrim House. What a beautiful idea. I started the Francis at the end of April and walked thinking and speaking often of Denise, especially near Astorga. This effort makes me want to go back to Astorga and carry a shell just for her in memory. If only walking in her...
