Having just completed the central route in October I would take the coastal out of Porto and cross over to the central after a couple of days. I found the largest portion of road walking (and the loudest) was taking the traditional central route out of Porto. The first 2 days were not enjoyable...
Just finished the Central from Porto. I can’t recommend the first 2 days of the Central due to all the road walking. After that it was good, especially from Ponte de Lima northward. Perhaps the coast from Porto for a couple of days is the better option but we have never done that.
We are south of Tui and accommodations are somewhat scarce and have been limited at times unless you can “upgrade” to a casa rural or hotel option. Lots of folks walking right now.
Also - unless you like walking next to speeding cars - skip the first two days on the the Central out of Porto...
