We also stayed at the Sandeman last May - excellent location and very comfortable beds😊

Should I stay or should I go?

For anyone else undecided - we caught a midday boat, lunched and toured the church in Pedron then walked on another 4k to stay at O Lager de Jesus - excellant vegetarian communal meal in a beautifully converted old building. It also has a swimming pool.

    Lisbon to Porto: Jan 2024

I have only visited Lisbon twice for a couple of days but love the vibe of this city with all it has to offer - see jungleboy's excellent article above. I would certainly visit again if I get the chance. Last May we started our Portuguese Camino from here and enjoyed the quietness of the...

Camino Portuguese alone or with someone

Hi, a friend and I walked from Lisbon in May this year, a few days I walked solo as Eileen had blisters and tendonitis. As I said on another thread we didn't find it as bad as some say - probably because due to those comments our bar was set quite low😅 We met pilgrims right from the first day...

    Lisbon to Porto: Jan 2024

My friend and I walked from Lisbon mid May this year. We were prepared for this first half to be not as interesting/ industrial/ road walking from all the negative comments we've read on here. Maybe because we had set the bar so low we actually enjoyed it, taking the good with the bad. Tomato...

your favorite accommodations Redondela and Caldas de Reis?

In June this year we stayed at A Darsana do Frances - 1km further on from the centre of town. Lovely old house in a huge garden, modern renovation, we had a 4 person bunkroom, kitchen for cooking. Would definitely stay again

Update on the Fire department accomodation in Tomar.

Yes, there is an Alberque in Asseiceira which accepts bookings - unfortunately it was full the day I came through in May this year but I had a rest there before walking out to the hardware store on the highway where a couple of lovely gentlemen gave me a ride to the train station.

Santarem or Tomar for a Rest Day

We ended up with 3 nights in Tomar, had planned a rest day then ended up there the night before as the albergue in Asseiceira was full. Stayed that night in Hostel 2300 in a dorm - nice hostel in main street of the old town then changed to our pre booked accommodation at Thomar Story Guest House...

    Footwear for Porto to Valenca/Tui?

Walked from Lisbon to SDC in May /June this year and am also a year round boot wearer. I usually wear Aku, an Italian brand, but I left it too late to order another pair (my third) from overseas so ended up with Scarpa which typically run narrow. The only issue I had was very tender soles of...

    Starting on 23rd July 2023 😊

Albergue O Ninho in Rubiaes had a great pilgrim feel the night we were there in June this year. Excellent communal dinner - the table looked like it was set for christmas:)

Question about early days out of Lisbon

Hi Jennifer, that's what we did in May this year. We walked to Parque das Nacoes then took the metro back to our accommodation in Lisbon then took the metro back in the morning and continued on from there. As we had to walk the old route through Alpirate we cut straight down to the Pavoa...

Starting off, On, The Camino Portuguese

Started from.Lisbon May 13 - mostly well signed from the Sè cathedral, just need to look around for arrows and small camino stickers on walls, lamp/sign posts etc at each intersection. The tile museum is well worth stopping at - the church/chapel inside is amazing.

    O Porrino to Redondela

Did it about 3 weeks ago - same as others have said - really only a short very steep section.

    Ponte de Lima

We stayed at Centro de Vila - lovely rooms with shared 'ensuite' style bathrooms.

    Casa Fernanda?

Stayed at Casa Fernanda about 3 weeks ago - arriving just as the heavens opened to torrential rain and thunderstorm - the 3rd and heaviest that day. Lovely welcome by Fernanda and her husband, best padron peppers, slow cooked pork, dip, bread wine then a beautiful dinner in her house. Another...

    Place to stay in Porto

We stayed at the House of Sandeman too, about 10 days ago. Great beds in the dorm, quiet. I think the private rooms face the street. Welcome drinks, great breakfast, easy walk just across the bridge.

Question about current Central Portuguese route conditions

Currently in Valada - our accommodation now full. Where we stayed in VFdX pretty full too on the nights we were there, people reporting difficulties with accommodation, taking train back and forth first few days as we did. Municipal albergue at Azumbuja had one spare bed last night. No one...
