Camino Portugues in mid May 2023

It could be hot, or cold, or cloudy, or sunny, or rainy. Take your pick. However, it could be all of those, or only one. You can be certain, it is unlikely to snow. P.S. how long is your piece of string.

Eating snails on the Camino Portugues

They are not usually on a menu. Simply served as a snack in most bars. Unlike those in France, they are small and you get a large bowl for a couple of euros. Enjoy.

    After Santiago?

You will be following the caminho route to Fatima. Signed with blue arrows all the way from Santiago to Fatima via Porto. So albergues will be no problem.

    Santiago to Porto.

No central. But if you want to follow the coast. Sea on the right. Yep. Going the correct direction! Can't miss Porto. Bom Caminho

    Santiago to Porto.

This is one of the easiest routes to follow in reverse, as you simply follow follow the blue arrows that are heading to Fatima. Why stop at Porto, you could follow all the way to Fatima.

    Albergues between Lisbon and Santiago

I have just finished and am in Santiago. No problem with any restrictions on albergues. I did notice howeverthat some close at the end of October for the winter but not because of covid.

LIVE from the Camino Lisbon to Porto

    Lisbon via Fatima

The path is well marked all the way. From Santarem to Fatima has a few strenuous sections as it passes through the hills, but well worth it for the views. From Fatima there are 2 options to rejoin, the main route to Santiago. Either via Tomar or Ansiao. The Ansiao route is a day shorter but as...

LIVE from the Camino Living on the Camino today

So for all my pilgrim friends, met or unmet, living anywhere around the world here is the view from my house near the caminho Portuguese. Its a wonderful view, but not pretty. Firstly for all the pilgrims who have had to postpone your caminho, you are blessed and lucky. You are alive and free...

I have 25 walking days. Do I have time to start in Lisbon if I am going to Finisterre and Muxia?

if you need any local information, please ask, I moved to the area 3 years ago, hence the reason I often bimble around on various bits of the caminho for a few days at a time. Plus I try to walk at least 1 complete route each year. Until I moved here I had no idea how many choices of route there...

Camino Portuguese in Jan/Feb anyone ?

I walked the route in February this year. All of the Albergues were open and heated, there was quite a good number of pilgrims and I always shared the Albergues with other pilgrims. I was also lucky with the weather. I walked the central route from Porto and never used my waterproofs once...

    The countdown has started

I hope that you really enjoy your Caminho and Portugal. It is a beautiful and peaceful country. Make sure you include Fatima on the route. Walk it, don't simply catch the bus. It will make your special Caminho, even more special. Bom caminho.

I have 25 walking days. Do I have time to start in Lisbon if I am going to Finisterre and Muxia?

Why not start near Fatima? It is the most amazing place to walk into as a pilgrim. I often think it is as good as walking into Santiago. If you were to start in Santarem or Nazare, you have 2 days walk to Fatima, or from Tomar you have a one day walk. The donativo albergue attached to the...

    Parking near Porto

French number plates shouldn't be a problem. With so many French people living in Portugal, French number plates are not unusual. I do realise that it is difficult to trust. Until I moved here, I also found that difficult.

    Parking near Porto

Simply drive to one of the suburbs. Very few flats have designated parking. Most parking is free, safe and without time restrictions. Park and catch the metro. Our friend (who is Portuguese) has just done that in Lisbon for 8 weeks with her BMW. She didn't even think it was strange or that she...

Looking for recommendations for Portuguese Camino guide book

Well you have a lot of choice. I live in Portugal and have collected most. There's the wise pilgrim app, when it works, it's great. Then there's the black spots where it doesn't!!. Then there's the CSJ. If you want to know exactly where to turn left or right without looking around or watching...

Can you walk from the Lisbon Airport to Old Town?

The bus is great from the airport terminal direct to the city centre. Costs a few euros 2 or 3, and is valid for any bus in the city centre for 24 hours. Goes every 15 minutes

How much money should I carry?

Virtually every village or town in Portugal has a free to use ATM and prices in Portugal are very cheap. 200€ goes a very long way
