    It's not compulsory to walk all the 42 Km. You can walk shorter legs (12, 18, 23 or 30 Km, as one likes or feels). Every 5 Km fruit and beverages are available. And in Bolsena a huge dish of macaroni pasta will be offered to the walkers. :cool: Last year in the "group expedition" from our town...

Walking on Via Francigena under the late morning/early noon sun of July/August is a true ordeal and you need to be well trained, well equipped and to keep on drinking water. Thanks Heaven Italy is not a desert and locals are always very helpful...

    accommodations in Milan after flight from USA

    Yes, I can confirm you that there isn't any Camino crossing Milan, so no pilgrim accomodations, as far as I know. But, there is plenty of not expensive B&Bs (just see Airbnb...). From Milan you could even go right away to Piacenza, because it's less than 1 hour of train away and several trains...
