javi--
lots of people post on this website looking for walking partners, but i'd say
don't sweat it
you'lll make lots of friends on the camino--some for a day, some for a camino, and some for a lifetime
on the other hand, there are so many variables that go into being good walking...
the camino has its own prayer
it's called the pilgrim's blessing
here it is in english
may god be for you
a companion along the path
a guide at the crossroads
strength in you weariness
defense before dangers
shelter on the way
shade against the heat
light in the darkness
a comforter...
the le puy route is said to be both the most beautiful and the most difficult
supposedly the ascent out of le puy is so steep that a lot of people turn around, go back into town, and hire a cab
vezelay is an easy place to start cuz it's convenient to paris
don't worry about guidebooks...
hey rita
i'm a jin shin jyutsu practitioner from richmond
i've done the camino frances twice and plan to it again in september
i want to do vezelay too
here's my number if you want to talk: 510 215-2155
in spanish they say "mejor solo que mal acompanado"
people often quoted this proverb to me
someone would approach me and say "you're walking alone!" and i'd say if "i weren't walking alone, you'd never have spoken to me"
after a while my reputation preceded me
i'd arrive at an albergue and...
my healing place would be lying on the floor of the dining room of the bishop's palace in astorga soaking up the sunshine thru the stained glass windows
i don't suppose they'd let me
anyway my heart goes out to you and i'll bet i'm not the only one
i don't know how old you are but i'm...
besides what are the odds you're gonna be in a sight-seeing kind of place at ten a.m?
in a perfect world, i'd say walk from sun-up til too hot (say six til noonish), then chill under a tree for a while still it starts to cool off (late afternoon), then walk again for three or four hours...
peter
(i don't know how to make that quote thing work)
my turkish students tell me that the question of whether or not turkey is in europe is unresolved but in general they consider western turkey to be in europe and eastern turkey to be in asia
well it's not exactly a pilgrimage, but you could try the lycian way in western turkey. i've also heard that prague to vienna makes a nice walk. and how about the carpathians? they were a popular vacation site during soviet days and they're sposed to be absolutely gorgeous.
please keep us...
Mark asked:
The problem with using boxes is if the customs officer in the destination demand that you open it. It's too much work and difficult to carry around. Also, what do you do with the box once you arrive? Do you buy another box before you return home?
You take your backpack out of...
about packing your backpack...
on the way over i pack my backpack in a strong cardboard box--
the kind you get from movers
you can take packing tape with you and tape the box closed at the airport
after tsa has finished with it
on the way back i take off the shoulder and waist straps and...
on my first camino my right knee swelled up like a canteloupe on the descent after the cruz de hierro and stayed that way for the rest of the trip
on my second camino i had no knee problems
here's what helped:
glucosamine
going to a chiropractor to get my gait evened out
pilates
shoes...
