the le puy route is said to be both the most beautiful and the most difficult supposedly the ascent out of le puy is so steep that a lot of people turn around, go back into town, and hire a cab vezelay is an easy place to start cuz it's convenient to paris don't worry about guidebooks...- leslie

in spanish they say "mejor solo que mal acompanado" people often quoted this proverb to me someone would approach me and say "you're walking alone!" and i'd say if "i weren't walking alone, you'd never have spoken to me" after a while my reputation preceded me i'd arrive at an albergue and...- leslie

besides what are the odds you're gonna be in a sight-seeing kind of place at ten a.m? in a perfect world, i'd say walk from sun-up til too hot (say six til noonish), then chill under a tree for a while still it starts to cool off (late afternoon), then walk again for three or four hours...- leslie

well it's not exactly a pilgrimage, but you could try the lycian way in western turkey. i've also heard that prague to vienna makes a nice walk. and how about the carpathians? they were a popular vacation site during soviet days and they're sposed to be absolutely gorgeous. please keep us...- leslie

about packing your backpack... on the way over i pack my backpack in a strong cardboard box-- the kind you get from movers you can take packing tape with you and tape the box closed at the airport after tsa has finished with it on the way back i take off the shoulder and waist straps and...- leslie

Hello all--Retired Alabamian here, walking in Galacia in May
on my first camino my right knee swelled up like a canteloupe on the descent after the cruz de hierro and stayed that way for the rest of the trip on my second camino i had no knee problems here's what helped: glucosamine going to a chiropractor to get my gait evened out pilates shoes...- leslie
