For flights i use 2 tools:
www.skyscanner.com --> you can enter your date, set Amsterdam as start location, set Spain as destination, search and filter for direct flights only.
https://www.flightconnections.com/ --> click on Amsterdam airport and see to which locations there are direct...
You arrive by train? Then you will not miss the train. The regional train should wait for the TGV and the station is tiny.
But it is the last one, you miss it you'll either have to take a taxi or sleep in Bayonne.
I'd personally likely also make a reservation and ask nicely if they would hold my stuff there. But it might be worth a try to ask at Express Bouricot if they would also do this (for a fee).
So i understand you want to fly to Frankfurt with all your stuff, send one piece of it to your brother (somewhere in Germany) and continue to the Plata with de rest?
I think this should be possible. There is a post office at the airport. There you should have 2 options, a) buy a cardboard parcel...
Hah, i remember being in Santiago twice and having the problem of finding the bus schedule twice as well. For a information that relevant to thousands of people it is remarkably well hidden.
But once you find the relevant bus stop it's dead simple.
edit: attached the current bus schedule.
Stayed at Itzalpea in 2019. Was OK, if i rember right, clean, but not a very big room. Felt good enough for a night.
They did close the reservation at 20:30 back than, you might need to check in before that.
While i agree that running and hiking are a bit of a different challenge, with some decent fitness the latter is usually easier. I would not see to many problems of you not being able to do the CF in 6 weeks, but i would agree that having a few extra days as flexibility might help.
For some...
I agree completely on the notion on flights just not being enjoyable anymore. Pretty much why i don't travel outside of europe anymore. Well, that, and my dog which doesnt really fit in the overhead compartment.
Just wanted to let you know that depending on the circumstances of your flight you...
I walked SJPDP to Roncesvalles in 6h flat. With breaks. I'm a good hiker, but there are also quite some people that are more fit.
So yes, i think it can be done.
Do I think it is a good idea? Pretty much NO, but it depends.
Some things crossing my mind:
- From what i have learned...
Honestly, i apreciate a bit of privacy when staying in the bigger cities for an extra day. So for me it is usually Airbnb and the likes. On rare occasions, hotels. That all depends on how the pricing and my mood is.
My walking family and me also shared an Airbnb / Appartment on a few occasions...
Theoretically, if you got more patience than i do, you can wrap your pack with saran wrap for some added protection. So you don't have to carry that cover for the camino.
Maybe not the most enviromentally concious option, but then, neither is flying.
Did fly from Santiago via Madrid to Berlin.
Iberia Business Class. Because it was cheaper than economy for whatever reasons the smart people at Iberia decided.
Check in at SCQ was fast. 5min. Security even less.
There is actually a lounge at Santiago airport. My first one. They had some nice...
I'll likely also arrive late in Bayonne (borders on Biarritz) in May. I plan on sleeping there and enjoying a bit of this allegedly beautiful town, then catch an earlyish train to SJPDP next morning (for whatever reason you cant book them now but i guess they'll still be there. If not, Taxi)...
Currently there is only the timetable published for connections until ~mid March. I think I read somewhere, that the timetable for spring is going to be published 12th Jan, aka tomorrow. So best check in two days for trains if you plan on travelling somwhere between March and June (Or check for...
two guesses (have not done the trip myself)
1. At this time, timetables for buses seem to be published only a few days or weeks ahead. Maybe check for an earlier date (but same day of week).
2. You might be more lucky if you look for a passage to Irun, then walk over the river into France...
This is controversial and i am sure a doctor would likely advise against it:
When travelling back from the US to Germany i take a light sleeping aid for the longer leg. Like 2 Tylenol PM. This helps me a lot to get some sleep on the plane and counter the jet lag. But this does not work when...
