Getting to Sarria from the UK

I caught a very early flight from Stansted to Santiago (Thursday only) in time to catch one once a day direct bus to Sarria. Lunchtime arrival meant a reasonably leisurely walk that afternoon. You can go via Lugo and change buses there.

Leaving Leon - take a taxi to the outskirts????

It looks a very dreary industrialised route. I took a bus from the centre to Virgin de Camino - not expensive and only.took 20 miutes or so. From VdeC you have a choice of two routes. I took the more rural one ( still wasnt a very beautiful stretch.) Your reward is that Astorga awaits you...

    Late arrival to Santiago airport

I arrived c 11pm in April last year and decided to taxi to my hostal. No problems checking in - it is Spain after all - but I think an albergure would be a problem.

Up to date senior discount for trains?

I bought one last year and it paid for itself immediately, struggled to use it in Sarria but the reolacement bus driver wasnt interested in seeing it or selling me a ticket! I'm told that if you book tickets well in advance then the ordinary discount is even better. Also thought I'd read...

Airport shuttle to bus station, then two buses (from memory, check rome2rio.) If you are of pension age, you can buy a train pass for discounted travel - a tarjeta dorada. Booking well in advance is often cheaper

If you check the official details it is true - but ( at the moment anyway) rarel enforced. If requested you need to show a return ticket and be able to show that you can access sufficient funds ( c€85 per day). English people can sign up to receive alerts from our government covering changes in...

Busing to the Camino in 2021

Alsa offer the longer distance buses I think. I've had difficulty in the past finding and checking their timetables online so glad to hear about new ways of finding them. IF you're walking a stage and thinking of returning to do more you could photograph the timetable.

Transport from Bilbao to Los Arcos

Autobuses la Union y Burundesa provides service from Bilbao to Logroño http://www.autobuseslaunion.com/en/ This doesnt seem to reach Logrono - in October anyway. I travelled from Logrono to Bilbao earlier this year in April by bus ! I think it was Alsa - but google and other searches seem to...
