It's an interesting question and one I think about whenever I travel.
I travel Spain to Ireland twice a year. Last time I flew and paid €35. If I was to take the train it would cost about 10 times that. If it wasn't such a big difference I'd prefer an overland route. Years ago I took the Paris...
Interesting article on the Euronews website about the new visa system which will come online in 2023 for non-EU citizens visiting a Schengen Area country.
One thing Spain could do is make it easier for non-EU citizens to get a longer stay visa. These are already available but I understand you would have to produce some kind of justification, taking care of an elderly parent, or something like that.
However I don't think concessions like this will...
Train to Vigo, then to Ourense, then to Monforte de Lemos, then to Sarria.
But yeah, it would probably take the whole day.
You could hire a car for the week, if you're not more than 5 people.
It's generally a good idea to book as soon as possible. A reserved seat is required on long distance trains and they often sell out. You're also more likely to get a better price.
The Bilbao airport bus drops you at the bus station, get a bus to Pamplona then another bus to SJPP. It mightn't be doable in one day because (I think) the SJPP bus leaves in the morning.
Last time I got this bus I arrived in SJPP for lunch then walked to Valcarlos and got there late afternoon.
This is a piece of excellent news. Hopefully more of the night trains will come back. I got Paris to Madrid several times, a sleeper cost about 120 francs extra, it was well worth it. The train got into Madrid about 8am. I used the Santiago to Madrid sleeper a couple of times as well. It used to...
This is excellent news! I checked the price as a foot passenger for next week and it was about €63. So at last there is a relatively affordable way of going from Ireland to Spain which doesn't involve flying.
It's 26 hours so there'll be plenty of time to enjoy the on board facilities.
It's up to you but I'd be careful about trusting a website like rome2rio when it comes to local bus services in Spain. Already one every 30 minutes to Haro sounds suspect. From what I can see on the bus company's website they're about one every two hours https://cuadrabuslineas.com/
You'll have...
If I was you and if you don't want to waste time I would go with Bilboa. The airport bus will drop you at the bus station and from there you can go to either Logrono or Burgos. I've taken a bus from Santo Domingo to Burgos so I know that service exists and since Santo Domingo is in La Rioja I...
I've used it in Germany and Spain. It's useful. There are problems which I hope they're going to sort out, for example because I first used it in Germany it sends me emails in German and there's no way to change the language. Then when I book from the Spanish website it mixes the two languages...
Hi SY!
Hope you're well!
Just regarding a place to stay in Bayonne. There's a woman there who takes in pilgrims, her name is Catharina. I stayed with her when I walked the Camino del Baztan last year. She lives not far from the railway station. I won't post her personal contact details here...
Hi Andyoxon
I checked on the SNCF website and unfortunately those are the only trains that are available to you. However, if you're worried about not finding accommodation in SJPP you could try reserving something. I only know of one hostel that takes reservations there, their website is...
