I know that CP does offer discounts for tickets bought in advance but in a situation like this, you're better off monitoring the strike situation. If things look clear a week before you need the train tickets, go ahead and buy them (you can use the CP app to do that). If things change at the...
I've done this trip in reverse: Renfe train from Santiago to Vigo, and then Vigo to Porto via CP, or Comboios de Portugal. It worked our fine, although we did have to wait a few hours in the Vigo station to pick up the Portuguese train. You'd have to examine the schedules to see what kind of...
We just went to a post office in Porto, where they boxed up the items, and sent the package to Casa Ivar in Santiago (https://casaivar.com/luggage-storage-in-santiago-de-compostela/) , where I picked it up (and met Ivar himself) a few weeks later. No problems at all.
Here's another option. Trains leave virtually every half hour from Braga to Porto, which is a one-hour trip. The earliest starts at 4:30 a.m. Take an early morning taxi to Braga, which is only a half hour away by car, then jump on one of those trains. My wife and I did this trip last year...
You can take a Spanish train to Vigo, and there pick up a Portuguese train at Vigo that crosses the border at Valença and proceeds by the coast to Porto, where you can pick up the train to Lisbon.
There is also public bus service up and down the coastal highway on the Portuguese side. That's a little tricky because there are several different companies plying parts of the route from Porto to Caminha, but you can go into any tourist office and get the schedules. Also, note that the metro...
My wife and I just flew into Madrid yesterday from the U.S., arriving in terminal 1. We did run into the "health check" people after immigration but all we had to do is wave our EU digital Covid certificates (they scanned the QR codes) and we were through in minutes. Immigration was also very...
This is true. We included the Spiritual Variant in our 2019 Camino and Tuitrans was willing to include that, but only because we booked all the way with them from Viana do Costello to Santiago. But I'm surprised to hear that Top Santiago won't cover the SV separately, given what the nun in...
My wife and I recently used Top Santiago, a new company, on the Portuguese Central and they worked quite well. We just let them know every night where we would be the next day. It was 8 euros per transport. From talking to some of the people running lodging along the trail we got the impression...
The easiest, fastest and most comfortable way to get to Valença from Porto is by train. According to my Portuguese rail app (CP, or Comboios de Portugal) there are about 15 trains on an average day from Porto's Sao Bento station with times ranging between two and three hours. It's very easy to...
That was our experience in 2019. However, in our case, the Spanish train from Santiago went to the Guixar station in Vigo, which is also where we picked up the Portuguese train for Porto, about an hour or two later. I can't explain the discrepancy. What I would suggest is: download the apps for...
In my experience, the best way to purchase Portuguese train tickets is to download the Comboios de Portugal app into your phone and then book directly on Portuguese rail. That always worked for me.
