Driving/renting a car from Madrid Airport to Camino Destination.

Your idea sounds fabulous! I have done one-way car rentals in Spain many times, and I have loved the freedom to explore that incredible country. I found driving along the Camino Francés to be especially fun and rewarding; having walked many times it feels like returning home. In case anyone is...

    Alsa buses at Madrid airport

Dottie, assuming you are arriving on an international flight, when you exit baggage claim you need to go up one floor, then exit the building, and turn to your right. There you will find the (free) bus to take you to T4. When you arrive at T4, enter the terminal and follow the signs to the bus...

Public transport along the Camino Francés

Excellent resource! I am just going to add an opinion on traveling into and out of Burgos. Personally I prefer the bus, since the bus station is just a few minutes' walk from the center. The train station is located about five kilometers from the center. I have heard there is a bus from the...

Albergue in St Jean pied de port Close times

Places that serve pilgrims in SJPP are expecting to host people who arrive on the last train of the night. So yes, they will be able to accommodate your arrival. The Pilgrim's Office will also be open late enough to receive pilgrims on that last train, to find places for them to stay if they...

Multiple night stays in Saint Jean

Hi Terri, I love the idea not to rush the start! I have stayed multiple nights at a couple of gites in SJPP: Gite Etoile (http://www.pelerinage-saint-jacques-compostelle.com/en/gite) and Gite Beilari when it was L'Esprit du Chemin (http://www.pelerinage-saint-jacques-compostelle.com/en/gite)...

Iberia will start flights to Biarritz on March 29th

This is great! Thanks for sharing this. It looks like the fares start at $53 one-way, and the departure is noon or 1:00pm. That will work well with many of the flights from the US.

Trains or Buses from Biarritz airport to St Jean Pied de Por

As of June 2015, the train track between Bayonne and SJPP is still out due to damage from a storm a couple years back. The current estimate is that the track will be repaired by October of this year. In the meantime, the train has been replaced by a bus, which leaves at the same times listed...

    New Pamplona-St. Jean bus service

For 2014 there were two buses a day for roughly Easter through early or mid- September, at 2:30pm and 5:30p. Then in July and August there was one additional bus, I think at 10:00am. The fare was 20 euros, one way. I am hoping for the same in 2015! Easter is April 5 next year.

    renfe train to Pamplona?

You should be able to print your ticket once you buy it online, so no need to have it posted...seems that's what I've always done, but it's been a while.

Transportation from Madrid airport to SJPP

If you arrive into MAD at 11:40a, the earliest you could get to Pamplona by bus is 7:45pm, which will be after the bus has left for SJPP. You certainly could get a taxi that late, though, from outside the bus station. The taxi will probably cost around 80-100 euros. Bus service from Madrid to...

Flying into France or Spain from US with a one-way ticket.

The Schengen agreement definitely applies to US citizens. We are limited to 90 days in a 180 day period in all Schengen countries combined (boo hoo!) I have arrived into European airports several dozen times, many of those times without an exit flight, and have never been asked to show proof...

Traveling to the camino from the us

Mark Lee is correct - there is no airport in SJPP. You fly to Biarritz, then take a bus to the train station in Bayonne, then catch a train to SJPP. Of course you can also go to SJPP by taxi. Another option is to fly to Pamplona and take the bus to SJPP.

Traveling to the camino from the us

Try this website to sort out the best route and fares for your international flights: http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ Once you find a good route and fare, you can buy the ticket on the airline's website or on Kayak/Expedia/etc.

    Bus "station" in SJPP?

Response to Falcon's photo...sometimes if there are multiple buses, they will pull up to the parking lot on the right in the photo. From there it is a short walk to the Pilgrim's Office, which is located up a very steep cobblestone street in the very center of the old town. If you have...

Silverton, where did you get a copy of this, and how can we all get one too??? What a great idea!

Horseback Vega de Valcarce to O Cebreiro

Not the name of the company, but here's the phone number... The sign was at the start of Vega del Calcarce, and the actual rentals began in Las Herrerias.

    walking in September 2014

Welcome, Jibaldo! I use two search sites to find low-fare flights, then I compare the fares to the home site for the airline. This site is great for finding the best routing and fares, but you can't buy the tickets here. (Thanks to another forum member for sharing this site a while back.)...

Bus travel to/from Rabanal del Camino

I'm pretty sure there isn't a bus from Ponferrada to Rabanal, but there is a bus from Astorga that runs three times a week.
