    Madrid to Ponferrada

We took the train in 2018 and it was very easy and fast to do so. There is Alsa bus service too. I would recommend getting the lay of the land with rome2rio and then jumping from there to either Renfe/Trainline and/or Alsa.

Change train in Ourense from Madrid to Sarria

Last month we were traveling the opposite direction from Baamonde to Madrid and had to finish the leg into Ourense on a bus too. As @J Willhaus says, it is all very efficient. We were pretty amazed how well Renfe handled it all. Our MD train from Baamonde was 10 minutes late when it picked us...

    Madrid City Walks

We just got back from the Camino de Norte, and spent a day in Madrid. We always love Madrid, especially the museums! If you're looking for a great walk, though, it is pretty hard to beat the Gran Via. The architecture is spectacular! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_V%C3%ADa,_Madrid

How does one travel from the train station Madrid Chamartin to Madrid Barajas airport?

We always take the Cercanías and it works very well. As others have mentioned, if you are connecting to/from a regular Renfe train, you likely have a combinado and the ride is free. Just be sure to use one of the turnstiles with the optical reader / scanner. They are usually to one end of the...

Bus from Biarritz airport to Bayonne?

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but you can walk from the airport to the train station in less than two hours. If you've got time to spare, it might be nice to stretch the legs. It's also a short taxi ride for a bit more euros.

    Ticket question

There is an ALSA app for iOS (Android too I imagine) that allows you to buy a ticket and display when boarding the bus. All very convenient if you are OK without paper tickets. I've used it a half dozen times and never had a problem.

Easiest way to reach Burgos from Madrid Barajas Airport

We've done both bus and train. The train station means a local bus to get from the station in Burgos, but Alsa bus from T4 is very convenient and inexpensive and drops you right in the center of Burgos. We have ridden Alsa in Spain about a dozen times now and have always had a good experience...

Making the Most of 4 Hours in Madrid

I would go for a walk in the Parque del Retiro - a great way to spend a relaxing couple of hours taking in the vibe.

Camino del Norte - where to start?

Based on what I saw last Spring and what I've read, I would guess the "old" coastal route listed in Gronze will be closed indefinitely. But, there is a newer route that still stays on or near-ish to the coast that should work if you are likely encounter the barricades that are (presumably) still...

Camino del Norte - where to start?

Yes, you can find info buried in both the Whitson & Perazzoli guide and in Gronze. Here's are some more direct links: https://www.gronze.com/etapa/saint-jean-luz-donibane-lohizune/hondarribia/irun/recorrido https://goo.gl/maps/od9k7puKwMuMMJt57 https://www.hendaye-tourisme.fr/fr/17098-bateau...

Camino del Norte - where to start?

I would recommend starting in Bayonne from the Cathedral. It is a short 5.5km walk from Biarritz into Bayonne, so you can begin your Camino right from the airport if you'd like. If you fly into Paris, you can take a train right to Bayonne itself. There is more information in Whitson &...

    planes and trains

I have very fond memories of landing on a rainy day in Paris, catching the metro to the Eiffel Tower / Champs de Mars and walking from there to the Gare Montparnasse to catch the train to Bayonne and from there to St. Jean Pied de Port. Lots of moving pieces, but it all worked out fine, and we...

Extra nights - Biarritz or SJPP?

We walked from the airport in Biarritz to Bayonne and stayed the evening there before starting our Camino del Norte last Spring. We really enjoyed staying there and touring the Cathedral and the neighborhood. You can walk to the train station the next day and make your way to St. Jean Pied de...

    Buying bus tickets in 2023

You might want to try the "alsa" app. It is pretty easy to use, and I see tickets from €9.90 to €41.45 in price for Sunday, February 5, 2023. We used the app last time we traveled from Laredo to Bilbao and it worked quite well for us.

    Arriving Biarritz on a Sunday

We flew into BIQ on a Sunday in mid-March, and saw taxis at the airport. We opted for getting our legs warmed, though, and had an unremarkable stroll to Bayonne.

    Getting to Irun from Biarritz

Yes, you may have some difficulties as you can see in this thread here: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/sentier-du-littoral-closed-after-guethary.74132/ But overall, it is a beautiful walk, even with the difficulties. I am glad we did it.

    San Sebastián airport to Irun

I would recommend walking. In my experience, taking a short walk is the best way to clear your head from all that plane and airport stuff. You might want to starting in Hondarribia, and it's just 2km into the center. We stayed there 2 weeks ago and it was very nice.

Biarritz Airport - current through time

We went through the airport in Biarritz two weekends ago and were out the door in less than 10 minutes. We went through Paris, so all the entry requirements were handled there, though. We were starting the Norte, so chose to walk into Bayonne instead of taking a taxi and that was straightforward...

most efficient travel from Madrid airport to Burgos

I agree with the postings above - we took the Alsa bus right from the airport in 2016 and it was comfortable and very direct. We had some time to re-enter into our Camino and arrived in Burgos near noon and got walking that day and made it to Tardajos easily. Highly recommended.

    Muxia to Madrid

Hello, I am looking for options to get from Muxia to Madrid on Saturday March 31. It doesn't look like there are any trains from Muxia. Are there viable (low stress) options available by bus or bus/train? Thank you, Tom
