My experience on the Norte was that the common language along pilgrims was english. ( I agree that the language transfer course is very good. Presuming one speaks english well because that is the starting point of these essons
If you have the time to go inside the Guggenheim I would, if only for the room with the immense steel structures by Richard Senna. They are not only beautifull but you have to experience them. Walking in the structures is really a "physical experience" which made a big impression on me
I Would spend a day in Ribadeo to visit the "catedralbeach" ( at low tide) You can get there by bus, train or taxi and walk back to Ribadeo. The beach is beautifull with different rockformations, the walk back along the ocean is also very beautifull and you can enjoy walking a day without your...
The title of this post is somewhat misleading. You can walk from SjdP to Irun without taking the GR 10. I did this two years ago. In the pilgrimoffice in SjdP they can give you, a rather unclear, routedescription. Sometimes I had to search a little bit, but there were no dangerous situations or...
I did both on different occasions. To me the combination of the two routes offers " the best of both worlds ". The wonderfull seaviews in the first half of the C de N wirh the beautifull mountainwalk on the primitivo. The second half of the C de N is still beautifull, but in general is " more of...
I have walked both routes. I think the Norte has more accomodations if you include all hotels, in all pricecategories. I don't think there's much difference as fas as pilgrim-orientated acvomodations are concerned. On neither route I had difficulties finding a place to stay.
The primitivo is...
I agree that the outside of the Guggenheim is more spectacular. Most of the artwork inside did not make a lasting impression on me with one big exemption that made the visit in the end very worthwhile. The room with the big steel plates of Richard Senna was impressive, walking in the structures...
Sorry but this is not true. People who book in advance don't diminish the number of beds that are available. Many albergues, like municipales, don't accept reservations. If many pilgrims make reservations the number of available beds in these albergues will be higher.
I remember there are frequent busses between Bilbao and Santander( from Oviedo I don't know)You can look at the Rome2 Rioside. ( If you walk from Santander I would recommend taking the alternative route along the coast, it is beautifull and avoids the not so pretty walk to Boo de Pielagos. It is...
I walked from SjpP to Irun last year. In the pilgrim office they gave me a route description which was rather unclear, one massive piece of text without much structure. I had another description found on Route You. The two descriptions contradicted eachother sometimes. Things were more more...
We tried to avoid going back to the place where we left the beach and tried to take a shortcut through meadows and undergrowth. That turned out to be not a good decision. Finding the way into Boo de Pielagos was complicated ( for us, we were directed in the wrong drection by a passer- by)
We...
I walked this stretch with my wife in 3018, it was very beautifull. You can break up this stage in two by staying in Soto de la Marina after 20 km. A room in a hotel was then 40 €. An advantage was that we could do it slow and take time to enjoy the nice views
Like others already said, I don't quite understand why you would want to do this. It is your choice though. Last year I walked from SjpdP to irun. I walked the Le Puy route. Some years ago I walked the Camino del Norte. Now I wanted to connect these two caminos.
I stayed in the albergue in...
I stayed in this hostal 3 years ago. It is, in my memory, about 1 - 2 km from the coast. To avoid backtracking we tried to take a shortcut by "strolling through the bushes" which was not easy. Perhaps there is a better way
