Incidentally, if you have the time, I recommend a variant from Salinas!

I can't speak to why those aren't updated, but speaking more broadly, the Norte seems to be re-routed in so many small ways (sometimes back and forth) that it can be tough...
Here's an additional option--I've heard back from a number of albergues and other accommodations at this point, so it's reasonably well updated for 2024. Open dates in Column J:

It's been really tough post-COVID to get clarity on some spots. Lots of places listed as "closed temporarily" that just faded away.
And occasionally, a closed place comes back. The albergue at the monastery in San Salvador de Valdediós is one of those--it reopened this past summer. It's not on...
The abbey albergue in Cóbreces has been closed for a few years now, unfortunately. Still hoping it comes back sometime. They do offer private rooms. The same is true for Zenarruza, incidentally--you can't reserve a bed in the albergue in advance, but you can book a private room.
Actually, I take it back--HOSVOBI just confirmed not only that Lezama will be open (June-September), but Larrabetzu as well! The latter will be operating Holy Week - mid-October.
Michael - I just checked in with the ayuntamiento in Lezama and they indicated that the albergue there is set to reopen in June, as is typical. Maybe it's under new management now? Have you heard anything more about this? I'm trying to follow up with HOSVOBI.
Would be nice if this one, at...
It's waymarked, too. As you anticipate, the route drops you in right at the ermita. Not worth backtracking into Irún, unless you want the much more budget-friendly accommodation in the albergue for the evening.
It's tempting to mention the big cities, and there's definitely plenty to enjoy in San Sebastián, or Bilbao, or Santander, or Gijón. But give me Comillas. A smaller town, a great plaza to hang out in, a big grassy area with beautiful buildings on both sides, Gaudí, and a good beach just outside...
Dang - Some unfortunate news: Albergue Kanpaia (Kanpaia Aterpea) in Getaria has closed. Another pilgrim-focused albergue on the Norte in Basque Country bites the dust. That makes the "stay in Getaria, push onto Izarbide" move a little harder, though there still is the other (more expensive)...
Love Izarbide. There's some uphill in those 5km, so don't expect an easy stroll! But I love the view from the picnic benches across from the albergue, and have often found the evening to be quite convivial there. They've done a great job of making the albergue in Deba work for a lot of pilgrims...
The PR-GI-22 splits from the Norte after Deba and will get you to Ondarroa, where you'll transition to the GR123. That's still going to take you into Gernika eventually, though, and no way around that, unless you can find a friendly boater. Keep in mind that while this parallels the coast, it...
When I stayed there in July, they still had space around 4-5pm, so you will hopefully have plenty of time in early May!
One thing you can consider, if it's not already in your plans, is to stay in Getaria instead of Zarautz the night before. That puts you ahead of the bulk of the other walkers.
Always good to confirm, but based on responses I've gotten lately, these should be open:
Albergue Piedad - Boo
Albergue Regato de las Anguilas - Polanco
Albergue Casa Flor - Pendueles
Albergue La Llosa de Cosme - Piñeres de Pría
San Esteban de Leces, as you mentioned
La Casa de Montse - before...
In the Via Podiensis sheet, we have the proprietors, and I confess that each of the last two years I have told myself, "I need to add that to the Spanish form," and then have failed to do so. Sigh. I have just now made that change. It'll trickle in, but in the near-term I don't have the time to...
After working on accommodation updates over the past month, I figured it was time to update my previous posting of donativos on the Norte/Primitivo from a few years back. Plenty of changes!
Camino del Norte Donativos
Irún - Albergue de Peregrinos Jakobi (bed and breakfast)
Pasajes de San Juan...
I see four on the Norte: Granja de Calor in Villamartín Pequeño, Albergue Triskel in Lourenzá, O Bisonte de Maariz, and Albergue de Peregrinos San Martín in Miraz. That's three ATJ albergues, plus the Confraternity's.
I don't have any listed on the Primitivo or Inglés.
I'm less familiar with...
