I describe the Norte as 30 days on the Stairmaster. After the first week, it's just another hill. The Norte is a walk where you meet the local people, I wouldn't take anything for my experience.

Thirty days shouldn't be a problem. I started September 4th at Irun and finished October 1st. I walked everyday, some days were longer than others but several were quite short, stopping by noon. I always was walking by 7:00.
The Norte is a nice walk much different than the Frances, both nice...
Interesting this is being discussed, one of the high points of my walk. I was surprised to be confronted by a monk when registering at the albergue. He was very friendly and talked a lot about the monastery. Not being Catholic I wanted to be sure of the correct protocols and asked "How do I...
Walked the Norte in 2016. It very well marked. Being a bit, ok a lot, oldschool, I walk with just a guide book, no GPS.or smartphone. The cities are always a problem not so well marked, (Frances is the same) my solution was to visit the tourist office.and they are more than happy to map out the...
What does the church say when someone takes the bus and get to the only albergue within 10 - 15 km and people who didn't take the bus find nowhere to stay. Since they are now warm and dry do they give up their accommodation to those who now have a greater need? When it is pouring rain and you...
The camino from Bilboa to Santander is a pleasant walk along the coast. Many vistas overlooking the water, many beautiful villages, and beaches. The beaches sometimes present a problem, as there are many people who use the albergues as a means to have an inexpensive beach vacation. On many...

I walked the Norte in September 2016 and found the albergues few and some distance apart. Several nights I stayed in pensions because the alburgues were full or there was no other choise. The pensions are very inexpensive but can be lonely. I noticed a lot of people staying in...
Cannot find the cathedral's office address, but the cathedral's address is Zabaleta Kalea, 18, 20002 Donostia, Gipuzkoa, Spain. The office is not at the cathedral but on an adjacent street. I got the cathedrael office address from the tourist office, tourist office address is Boulevard Alameda...
When I was there September 4th 2016 the albergue was full. Stayed in a small inexpensive pension (E30). The albergue does have credentials but last year passed out written warning the credential was not a official credential and may not be accepted in Santiago. Do not know the current status of...
Matt:
I walked the Norte starting in Irun last year starting September 5th. The first week it was very warm and made walking any distance difficult. After the first week in became very comfortable, cool in the morning and warming up during the day to short sleeve temperature. It did rain, but...
You may consider booking ahead in towns near a beach. I found several albergues filled with "pilgrims" who, appeared to me, there to take advantage of the low cost accommodations and were taking the train between towns and then spending the day on the beach. I was always able to find a room, but...
